OOC Info on Max
The Care & Feeding of a Transgenic
Max is a slim, dark-haired young woman who is fiercely independent. She finances her search for her siblings by being a cat burglar, but she also holds a job as a bike messenger at a company called Jam Pony. She has trouble trusting people, but she has some good friends at her job, some of whom eventually learn her secret and even help her in various ways.
She has a barcode on the back of her neck that features her designation (332960073452), which is shortened to X5-452 when people refer to her in canon. She is careful to keep the barcode covered because of it's link back to Manticore.
As a result of the genetic mucking about that she's gone through, she has two unusual flaws. One is that her brain doesn't produce enough serotonin and she needs to take tryptophan on a regular basis or she'll have seizures. Another is that three times a year, she goes into heat (like a cat) and becomes desperate for sexual activity. She tries not to give in to her desires, but isn't always successful.
The X5 transgenics have a DNA cocktail that includes feline DNA, so Max has enhanced hearing and vision (even at night), is extremely agile with excellent reflexes, has accelerated healing and an enhanced immune system, and has an eidetic memory and high IQ. She spent the first nine years of her life being trained a soldier, so she has excellent hand to hand combat skills, is familiar with computer technology and has been trained with a number of weapons. She can also hold her breath under water for long periods of time.
Max is coming to Fandom High pre-canon and I am drawing heavily on the prequel novel Before the Dawn for her backstory.
At the beginning of the novel, Max pulls off a major heist for her boss, Moody, leader of the Chinese Clan, by stealing the Heart of the Ocean "prop" (which, according to the novel is actually a real diamond) from a museum. Moody gives her a significant amount of money for her troubles and seems to be angling for them to become more involved.
This is the point where I'm going to pull Max from canon. In the book, she sees a video of what appears to be another X5 in Seattle. For FH purposes, she'll see a video that says it's set in Washington DC. She'll take off on her motorcycle and drive cross-country, intent on finding one of her Manticore siblings. Instead, she'll end up in Fandom. Once she realizes that she's in the year 2007 and it's pre-Pulse, she'll decide that she can benefit from sticking around for a while.
She'll be trying to keep a low profile and blending in the best she can. She has a barcode tattoo on the back of her neck, but unless otherwise stated in the narrative, it will be covered by her hair or clothing at all times.
