When they began the demolition, the problem became apparent. The the tower would not fall. Given the materials believed to have been used in it's construction, it was thought that it should have come down years ago. A strong wind should have taken the tower to the ground. I really liked the attention to detail here; the use of the name Ariadne was especially interesting, because I kept imagining the Ariadne of Greek mythology and her role in the solution of King Minos' labyrinth.

Thank you! I love that myth, and thought the reference was interesting. Ariadne in this story seems to be the only one who sees the tower for what it really is. The story was meant to be a stand-alone, but I would imagine if the plot played out, she would probably be the only one to eventually figure out how to bring the tower (and the system keeping it in place) down for good.
