A great afternoon interrupted by a hell of a snake

So... ever come home to find a large snake in your kitchen? No? Well I did today...

I had been out to lunch and a movie (The Hangover which was too too funny btw) and strolled into my house, saw the dog by the backdoor but detoured to the kitchen to drop my purse off... and on the floor by the fridge is a big freakin' brown snake. I freeze, brain trying to process that there is a snake in my kitchen... there's a snake in my kitchen... THERE'S A SNAKE IN MY KITCHEN!!!!! I turn around and run back out the front door and frantically pull out my mobile phone only to realize I have no idea who to call.

I ended up going over to my neighbours and luckily they were home and we called the animal control people who specialize in snake handling and they came quite quickly and the snake was taken away. Apparently it was about a metre long and an adult eastern brown snake which is a venemous snake which is quite common here. I had never actually seen one until today outside of a zoo. The snake handler, Steve, then checked the whole house and cupboards to see if there were any other snakes in here and pointed out where i would have gotten in. I had left the laundry door open with the screen door shut & locked but there was a hole in the netting big enough for the snake to get in through. So needless to say, the netting is fixed, and I will never, ever, leave that door open while I'm out of the house again.

But there were no more snakes in the house (thank goodness) and the one that was in here isn't anymore and both the cat and dog were outside at the time so they were in no danger from it. But it was a hell of a shock to come home to and I'm not sure I'll be sleeping well tonight. But we did go through the mattresses and the sofas and all those naughty places they like to hide and there weren't any... Steve looked around for two hours to assure me.... But.... Ok, I will stop thinking about it... I will stop thinking about it... I WILL stop thinking about it.
