The news out here is saturated with talk of the massive typhoon damage in Osaka. It's pretty crazy. There have been something like 21 typhoons this year, 9 of which have actually landed in Japan (they don't have to actually land to cause massive damage -- like most kinds of major storm, a typhoon a ways off over the ocean will still be felt here ( Read more... )

Wheee! Update!

"then Keiko went on to explain that I had to be careful and very selective because my features are considered to be "most attractive" to Japanese men. I promised that yes, I'd be selective, but, I mean, my selection is pretty considerably narrowed by the fact that I can only choose from the ones who speak decent English"
::giggles madly:: I speak decent English! ::laugh::

Archery on horse back?! SWEET!

Mt. St. Helens is currently in the smoking stage, nobody is sure if this is a good thing (ie - it's over, that's all) or a bad thing (ie - stay tuned for the feature presentation). However, nobody thinks this will be anything like the 1980 eruption.

Oh, and I think you were probably eating Takoyaki, ne?

And yes, Typhoons in Osaka, Hurricaines in Florida - Of course I believe you, Mr. President, there is no such thing as global warming! ::headdesk:: ::headdesk:: ::headdesk::

TAKOYAKI. Yes. And kohii. Thank you.

Hahaha. Dude, I could live here for ten years and I think you'd still know more factual stuff about the culture than I do. ;)

Sarah says, "shucks"? :: collapses, laughing ::

& your students are older than you are. That's just too adorable for words. Miss Sarah. Do they call you ma'am?

The dynamic'll wear off in time, I'm sure of it. So no worries. :)

It's a strange world. They don't call me ma'am, no. They just call me "Sarah." Though my manager refers to me as Sarah-sensei and I think that when my students talk about me in Japanese they call me Sarah-sensei too. Yes, I am "sensei." Or, as they say in Japanese, "sensei desu." Hehehe, this whole Japanese thing. . . Nihongo ga suki desu. ;)

Hey there,

Mt St. Helens blew a little yesterday, just ash and steam, but they aren't sure if that was just the dress rehersal, they're keeping an eye on it for a few more days at least. Oh, by the way, Dal marks so easy...I'm still used to the Queen's system I guess. I got an A- on an assignment/presentation last week and I was like "So that's an 80, right?" and my friends were like "No, that's like an 85"...too easy man. Oh, and send me your phone number.
