You should try it! It's fun and I'm sure there are a lot of places to play in LA.

dude, i'm sorta tickled that someone else on my flist has used the word, "training" in an lj entry. hee.

the video looks really cool. i remember a performance a p.e. class did at the end of last semester, for their finals -- it was the capoeira class, and their thing looked like this, except it wasn't by partner, and the dancing was faster. is the dance choreographed? how is it a game? :D

i can't do any of the hand/headstand, cartwheel stuff myself. not even as a kid. it's probably why i stick to taekwondo -- getting to feel light on my feet is enough for me, hee. hurrah to any and all martial arts that feel like dances and bring on the Good Ouch. XD

p.s. i had that song on repeat for a good chunk of last summer, but i could never figure out what he sings, exactly, during the bridge.

sometimes i hold you right, nice and tight
'til something something something
how come it's based on this (?!)
something something something

I have no idea about the lyrics but I can listen again later and try to figure it out. That song was the only thing I liked about the movie "Elizabethtown ( ... )

My roommate's ex-boyfriend was really into capoeira, and he was really good at it, too. He'd spend hours a day on it. And we'd just watch. And watch. And watch.

It's SO COOL to watch people who are good at it.

Is your icon from that movie, "Nana"?

Yeah, it is! I kind of have a huge girlcrush on Mika Nakashima.

I love capoeira! I was decent enough at it when I took some classes via dance workshops, but I think I would blob out if I tried it right now! One nice thing for me is that my body was practically MADE for it - long torso = great momentum for whipping your legs around. Considering that my long torso is almost ALWAYS a pain, it was nice to be like, "Hey! I'm a mutant in a GOOD way!"

ALSO! I tried to call you on Sunday evening, but I was getting a "call cannot be completed as dialed" message! Did you run out of battery or leave it off? Anyway, I'll try again this week (probably not tonight, though, I have a feeling I'll be taking calls from family all night.)

That's really odd - even if I'd run out of battery or turned the phone off or something, your call should have gone through to voicemail. My number is (812) 219-2325 - is that what you've got?

I was going to call you tonight for your birthday but I"m thinking I probably won't get through, so I'll try to call you tomorrow just to make your birthday that much longer.

What's cool about capoeira is that it sooooo doesn't come naturally to me. I mean, I haven't done a handstand since I was about 5. So I really feel like I'm learning a new skill. That said: capoeira Angola doesn't involve a whole lot of whipping legs around - it's generally played pretty slowly (see video above). You were probably doing the more acrobatic Regionale style.

I called the number in my phone, which was the same one you called from the other night and I've called in the past. I'll double check it against the number you listed above, but I'm pretty sure it was the same. Maybe it was all of the shitty weather that's been happening lately? I might've called when service was spotty? I was going to call back later that night, but with the 2 hour time difference, I wasn't sure if it would be too late or not.

Yeah, I think I learned Regionale. The last time I played was during my dance history class - one of the boys and I were throwing aerials face to face - now THAT is a rush :) If I tried to do that right now I'd probably be on crutches! Tomorrow sounds perfect. Typically, I would have rehersal in the evening (like last week) but not this week or next, due to my sister's PDC rehersals :) It's kind of nice that they're someone else's PDC rehersals this time!

Oh, PDC rehearsals! I remember those, and the general Casey giddy-misery that always accompanied them.

Kick ass! Capoeira is pretty much one of the coolest things ever. I would love to do it.

My current level of bad assness isn't quite up to yours - I'm training to play rugby in the spring. And I know about intense soreness as I just had my first practice tonight and I'm worn out. She-it.

H'anyway, good to hear from you. Stay cool. <3

Dude, we can be long-distance buddies in tiger balm. Rugby is cool and all full-contact and stuff - craziness! I bet you'll be good at it, though. Are you playing on the school team?

Buddies in soreness (and bad-assness), maybe. Tiger balm kind of weirds me out, though. I think I'll go steal some linament from the barn ;). And yeah, some first year girls are starting a club team because my school doesn't have one and, having played all through HS, these girls are kind of obsessed. It's not going to be too intense, but hopefully we'll get some tackling in. Hehe.

Give me a call sometime, will you?
