From the way you've laid out the argument and from the way I know you, the answer is hard but obvious: go to the Artic, darlin'.
It's a risk, it's difficult, but this is THE opportunity. You've got the support, the skills, and the wherewithal. You know the risks, you know the consequences, you know what you'd have to do if you contracted TB.
You're a calculated risk taker, I've always felt that about you - a very smart risk taker with a heady desire for adventure. This is just one of the biggest risks for you to take. But think of, and I'm sure you have, how you'll feel if you DON'T go? Sure there are other opportuntities, but you have been wanting to go to the Artic FOREVER, it seems. You've wanted this SO MUCH, and if you have a firm plan of action for all horrible what ifs, why not just do it?
You're a brave, brave woman and you make very good, thoughtful choices. I'm sure whichever way you choose, it'll be the right one for you. The above is just my two cents.
I also think you should go. Especially with what you said about treatment, should you be exposed to the disease, it's not fast onset and very treatable. You also mention it's fairly low risk you would contract it
( ... )
Dude. You know exactly what you want, and you know you want it bad. Most people -- disease, or perfectly healthy -- don't even have that. Myself included. My vote is to go for it. You've worked out the complications, you've considered all sides, like Liz said, you know the risks and the consequences. You owe this to yourself. Go for it.
That's my vote, anyway. Heh.
This is all your call. But you know that. Also know that I trust you'll make the right decision for yourself, whichever it is, and you've got my full support on it the whole way. Best of luck, you. :)
Sorry I'm a bit late on this, but from your carefully considered argument, it sounds like you should go. This is undoubtedly quite the dilemma, but the thought I leave you with is: what feels right?
Call me sometime and let me know how things are going.
