Writing Workshop 1

Sep 25, 2006 08:56

For awhile now I've been wanting to start having writing exercises over here, with the intention of helping all of us increase our creativity and skill in both creative writing and character development. I suppose I've been contemplating how to go about it, but it has occurred to me (especially after the success of the "How I am like/not like my pup" meme I posted last week) that I should just go ahead and jump in and not worry about the details.

Any Writing Workshop exercises posted here are, as always, totally voluntary. There's no time limit on them. Unlike many of our memes, these aren't intended to be "interactive," but rather just a stretching of our proverbial creative muscles. These exercises aren't going to be posted on a schedule, but rather just periodically. Feedback on submissions is understood to be welcome, but keep it within the scope of constructive criticism.

Today, we'll start with a simple exercise that'll hopefully lead exciting places.

For one of your pups, start writing with some version of the phrase "I remember" (Perspective and tense can be changed). Write for at least ten minutes, or 500 words.

None of what you come up with has to count IG, although if you develop some more history for your pup, all the better. Do as many entries as you like. I'm really eager to see what all of you come up with!

Have fun,
Anita
