New Year's Resolutions

Feb 08, 2004 21:35

I know this is a little late, but I've been thinking about them for quite some time. I guess I just decided to put them down where others could read them so that I, myself, could not ignore them. I'm serious. It is very hard for me to back down when I know others are holding me to it! Let's hope this works as these are all things I would like to ( Read more... )

I think those resolutions sound quite reasonable. I mean, they aren't just "things I want to accomplish this year", if you know what I mean. Good luck with them! I would love to hear more about how it's going with your novel and your Spanish degree :)

becoming a vegetarian is not an over night thing. Take your time, let your body get use to it. After a while it will feel more natural.

I hope so .. however, it didn't really feel unnatural and I don't really eat that much meat anyway. It's just that it sometimes is hard to find non-meaty items to eat when everyone is begging for meaties ... oh, well, I will figure it out :) Thanks for the advice.

Okay, this strikes a chord here, because I stopped eating meat two months ago (or so), and I gave in twice so far. Once, I was sick and I thought eating salmon patties might make me feel better, and the other time I was visiting my grandmother for lunch at her nursing home, and decided I might as well just eat the chicken fried steak already. Sometimes I just don't feel like explaining myself.

The trick with this, just like anything anyone wants to stop doing, is even if you give into temptation, to just declare yourself too weak to change is seriously selling yourself short. Just try not to repeat giving in, the next time. I say, keep going cold turkey.

word.

I've been a veggie for coming up on seven years now. Of course, it was less difficult for me, since I don't really like meat all that much. When I first started, I forgot that I went veggie a few times till I was chewing my keilbasa or hamburger. I just swallowed it and thought, whoops! Forgot. And eventually it wasn't an issue.

Indeed, and when it comes to these situations I always try to look at it in reverse. Say if you're not a smoker, you don't smoke cigarettes, never have, don't ever intend to..and you get drunk one night and take a puff off of a friend's Marlboro, now does that automatically qualify you as a smoker? Probably not, right?

myaxe, I think, is viewing herself right now as "a meat eater, who wants to quit" as opposed to "a vegetarian, who slipped up", which is maybe what she should start considering herself. Sure, it's all a simple and rhetorical play-on-words on the surface, but I can't deny its importance.
