My Favorite Childhood Toy

Feb 10, 2004 21:51

I had several toys, but the one that I loved the most was a Cabbage Patch Kid named Mary Rose. She was one of the early mass-produced ones, with light brown yarn hair and a white and green dress. She had blue eyes and was very sweet. My mother had ordered her for Christmas that year, but they were so popular that the damned doll was on back order ( Read more... )

It was probably traumatic enough having your house burn down, but even more so to see Mary Rose in that condition. That would've broke my heart.

When I was six, my Dad, out of the clear blue, gave me his old St. Christopher medal (he grew up Catholic on the NE Side), and quite foolishly I lost it a few years later. I was somewhere huffing gasoline, and misplaced it. Never found it again. Even today, I kick myself. I would give anything to get it back. :(

Not so much traumatic as sad. Like when your best friend moves far, far away and, even though you promise to write and visit each other, you know deep inside that that won't really happen. It was that same sort of empty feeling. A hollowness that is hard to describe.

Now I feel the need to break out that ol' Toad The Wet Sprocket CD that's been gathering serious dust.

But yeah, I know what you mean. Hollowness, one of those bleak moments where in an instant you know that everything has very subtely changed, forever.

My mom still has my "blankey"..it's all worn and the edges are frayed from me sucking on them when I was little. I'm thinking about asking her to bring it to me...it is still comforting. :)

I had a blanket, too. It was hand embroidered by my aunt and I had it up until that fire, as well. It was deemed "Clown Blankie" because of this huge clown thing in the center.

It had been washed so many times that it was falling apart and most of the embroidery had come out. In fact all the colors were pretty faded to my memory also. :)

My super secret insomnia defense is a stuffed Snoopy. Works everytime, and I can't imagine losing him. I'm sorry about Mary Rose.

It was a very nice entry :)

I remember all the hype about Cabbage Patch Dolls. I never owned one, but man, they are SO 80's stuff. The first pen pal I ever had was a little girl from NY who had lots of cabbage patch dolls and she always told me about them. They were cute :)

I only had the one. There was, however, a girl down the street who had some absurd number of them and would bring them to school with her, a different one each day.
