This is just copypasta of my BSG finale response to the Enigma list. Only sort of makes sense out of context.

Now with better spelling... )

sci-fi, bsg, television

Oh, I know. That part was way dumb, with Lee whispering to the wind that Kara would be remembered. Yeah, only until colonial society fades away and women come to be treated as subhuman in most cultures. Bah. Fail ending.

I really liked reading this. And it's so nice to see that I'm not the only one who hated Hera. What a waste of a plot developtment, imo.

Oh, but Gaius grew up on a farm. That'll solve everything.

lol forever. ia bb. and I have to post this macro for you:

OMG you icon'd the pigeon macro! I made those, actually, haha. Also this one b/c people were telling me I just didn't get "the subtle symbolism" of the finale.

I was actually a bit put out to discover the pigeon bit wasn't originally intended for Lee, that RDM just wanted a scene with someone flailing after a pigeon. So Kara = pigeon was mostly an accident. Oh, well, I stand by my macros. Kara is a pigeon and it is lulzy.

Yes! You've totally pinpointed what I didn't like. Who cares about a story where the characters turn out not to have really had any agency all along?

Just saw the finale, finally.

I enjoyed it, but didn't quite get all the nuances, because I saw this show in staggered bursts.

IMHO, the show climaxed and ended when they reached "earth' (their first Earth).

I can't think of a better ending than "Yes, billions died and you suffered and fought and scraped and scrabbled and even partnered with some of your former enemies, and YOU MADE IT! YOU REACHED EARTH!" and it's a radioactive cinder.

BEST ENDING EVAAAAAR!!!!

That's exactly what life and humanity is: fight, struggle, survive, but in the end, you get dirt. And not even good dirt. And it will always be that way. George Bush was President for eight years.

Overall, I still think the show is one of the best ever to air on television. My hope now is that the networks copy it so the bar for quality SF (genre) material has been raised considerably.
