Yes, but what are Kripke's thoughts on yaoi?

Ok, so I stopped watching Supernatural a couple episodes back, cause I don't like the demon/angel storyline. But then I heard there was a lot of wank over this week's episode, so I just started watching it...

OH MY GOD WHY IS THIS HAPPENING )

IKR. I really can't take SPN serious anymore. I mean, how many fandom cliches can you actually put on screen? There was Groundhog Day and amnesia and god knows what and now this. It's hilarious, yeah, but it's kind of ruining the show a bit.

Yeah, that's the problem. They do episodes like this where it's all just a big joke, and that's funny, but then they do a 180 and expect us to take it all seriously again. Going from "look at all our writing fail!" to "it's the will of God!" in a single episode just... doesn't work. Constant meta humor is fine if the show is an off-the-wall comedy like Arrested Development, but on a show that needs us to buy into heavy duty Heaven vs. Hell mythology? They are seriously undercutting any chance they might have at establishing actual gravitas.

Honestly, I thought it was hilarious, because I find the crazy parts of fandom to be hilarious. And it's not like the writers didn't make fun of themselves (the bugs, the racist truck, etc) and Jensen and Jared (the book cover). I've been mostly not watching SPN anymore, but I liked this episode quite a bit, once I got used to its wackiness.

The wacky is definitely fun! Although I didn't get most of the references since Supernatural tends to slide right out of my brain immediately after I watch an episode.
