wisps of something

woohyun watches as the little thing called love disappears. it's so short lived.
Dongwoo always looks cute to Woohyun, though he can't really explain why. Woohyun just likes it when he's near him, when Dongwoo warms him up, when he greets him after he returns from work. He looks so happy, so cheery, and it's hard for Woohyun to wipe their smiles off their faces, because they both bask in each other's happiness until sleep calls to them or the day comes and Woohyn has to go back to work. Dongwoo doesn't have to work - he will never work, that's what Woohyun promised him. He keeps his promise.
Woohyun doesn't know what he looks to Dongwoo. A loving person? A good friend? A wonderful boyfriend? He isn't sure he fits any of those titles very well, but the smiles Dongwoo gives him tells him that he must be doing something right, or Dongwoo would have probably stepped up the door by now. Woohyun exhales every time he comes home, happy to see that he's still there, seeing that Woohyun isn't the best boyfriend, not the best dresser, not the best in bed, etc.
Dongwoo smiles up to him, never really minding the time he gets home at or the state he's in. "You look tired. Let's go to bed." He grabs his hand and leads him to the bedroom, tucking him in and snuggling up beside him, spooning him. Woohyun smiles, fitting to his boyfriend's grasp. He falls asleep, lulled by Dongwoo's sleep.
He wakes up with him in a coughing fit on the side of the bed. He leans over, patting his back. "You okay?" he asks, rubbing his hands down his back, giving him a small massage. He nods in response. "Go back to bed, I'll be fine," he grabs a tissue and rushes to the washroom, leaving Woohyun in the bed, worried.
They've only been dating for three months. It isn't that long, but when he sees Dongwoo when he gets home, he knows he's in love. He watches him cough in the middle of the night and he worries. He buys him medication, and begs that he goes to the doctor, just to see if anything's wrong. Dongwoo's stubborn and says no every time. "I'll be fine," he says, kissing him on the forehead before going back to his laptop, shushing out the world with loud music. Woohyun rubs his arm nervously.
It takes two weeks to have ten pounds off of him. That's the thing that forces Dongwoo to go to the doctor. He vomits up blood. He has liver cancer - and his alcoholic tendencies don't help, either. Woohyun cries in the hospital room, and has to wait thirty minutes before he can walk out again.
It's too quick, Woohyun tells himself. He breathes in, and sets the roses down. He walks away. Well, he wants to walk away, but his feet are planted there, so he just waits for everyone to leave. It was too quick; the wisps of love still clutched between his fingers.
He crumples down on the grass and grips the stone.
