kyuhyun likes balance. donghae doesn't.
Kyuhyun liked balance.
He liked waking up at the same time every morning, and going to bed at the same time. He had a place that he went to for his lunch break every lunch. He drove the same car for ten years before it finally rolled over and died, and so he had to buy a new one, which ended up being the same model, just a few years newer. He liked sitting in his apartment and watching the stars as he ate, all alone, but that was something that he was used to.
He had the months and days when he would get his haircut. He had the weeks planned out when he would go visit his family, so that his family would never have a surprise for when he would come over. He had the days he would go on vacation, and the place he would go to every year. He always carried a book, to make sure that he would never forget something. He continued his routine, and his family believed that he would continue this schedule until the day he died.
But Kyuhyun liked it that way. He liked the scales balanced perfectly - not too much evil, not too much good. He took the pain with a smile, only to treat himself later on for dealing with it. His life scale he kept very close to his heart, punishing himself if he did too much good to himself. He took the good, but accepted the pain just as well.
Kyuhyun liked balance, and lived for the schedule in his life.

Donghae didn’t agree that balance was the most important thing in life.
He was the one that dropped his job to go to another one or to tour around Asia for a few years. He hates being routed in one place for very long, so soon he’s off doing something else. He’s skydived, he’s jumped into a cool pool of water, and he’s learned four languages (Mandarin, Japanese, Cantonese and English) and spends his days learning new ones. He goes to his family and surprises them. He helps people in the army, even though he was let out years ago. He sings at karaoke bars and buys drinks for everyone, not afraid to get a little tipsy.
He changes up his hair cut every few months. He dyes it and shocks his girlfriends. He experiments with the boys and girls and never found one better than the other. He doesn’t have a routine, why would you want one of those? He doesn’t even know what town he’s in at the moment but that doesn’t matter, because a smile is constantly on his face and he likes the feeling it brings him. He loves swimming in the sea on day, and the next he’s climbing a mountain. Donghae never has a routine, never has a schedule, and he’s sure that he’ll never need one.
And Donghae loves it that way. People look up to him, smiling, and he’s the one that everyone likes, the one that you’ll call for a good time. His scales are always tipped, from when he gets a new surfboard to when he breaks his leg again and has to stay in the hospital for months. He doesn’t care if his scale tips, because when the bad comes, good should come soon, too.
Donghae doesn’t like balance - he likes living.

Kyuhyun sighs, closing his eyes and letting out a sigh. It’s past his bed time. He should have been sleeping by now, instead of walking around like an idiot. He should be in his pajamas, the green ones because it’s Wednesday, and be wrapped in his fuzzy socks and-
“Hey,” a voice calls, and turns. He smiles - yes that was the reason why he was up so late. The chocolate-haired male leaned over and hugged him, before lacing their fingers together. Kyuhyun tries walking in step with him, but Donghae keeps slowing down and stopping and then running and then stopping again, all not to Kyuhyun’s preference. He bites his lip for comfort, pretending not to notice that his heart is beating two times faster than its typical rate and it may result in a heart attack.
Kyuhyun follows him, past the evergreens and pines that have survived winter’s cold arrival. Donghae stops them often and shows him birds that have survived, nestling in their nests among loved ones. Kyuhyun feels oddly jealous of them - wanting to snuggle up to Donghae, who walked around like it was perfectly normal to hang around, holding someone’s hand that looked more excited than he had been when he had been walking around by himself earlier on. Kyuhyun knows his scale is leaning over to the ‘good’ side, and it’s odd, because Donghae always makes him feel that way.
No, let me please myself, he thinks, and lets the scale dip, and he presses his lips against Donghae’s.

Donghae will wake up one morning and feel terrible, feel abused, feel awful. It’s a feeling he will never experience again - for Kyuhyun balance things out so it leans on the good side.
