Hey Jon,
I do not wish to be rude, I wish only to add one footnote. Central America is America. South America is also America. We happen to be in the Northern/United States end of it.

I believe we are bound by this commonality and it is ruprtured when we consider ourselves to be "the" America.

Just wanted to make light of that.

Two things that I neglected to mention:
One: I read Amy's journal on occasion and decided randomly last week to check out her friends' journals. That's how I came across yours.
Two: I really like the third paragraph of this post.

I certainly understand your point about all being americans. I was using the term to distinguish the privilege those of us residing in the united states are granted purely by luck of birth place. there is certainly a commonality among us though. not just hemispherically, but innate in our experience as human beings. there is a massive problem with the ignorance that fortune has allowed us to have, it certainly is divisive. It is what has allowed the abhorrent foreign politics and policy that have shaped those nations south of the US.

Kinzer's book 'overthrow' and of course, chompsky, have been great reads for me, though i haven't kept up on it as i should have recently. ah well...
