Strange mushroom

I found this strange mushroom  I tried to ID it using Rogers Mushroom, I could not find a match.  I found this  mushroom  on a tree near my gf's house.Is it edible ?

my guess (and its a GUESS) is Dryad's saddle Polyporus squamosus

its too tough to eat, not sure why you'd want to

in any event.. .I wouldnt

Yup that is the one. It is edible when young.

there's an amazing book called Fascinating Fungi of New England it's my go to book for the NE US (I noticed you're in Montreal? Close enough!)

I'd recommend it to anyone in this neck of the woods who's a newbie (like me) and interested in shrooming

Definitely a dryad's saddle. I was so confused by the first one I saw, because it takes so long for it to grow into the way it looks in the field guides.

that's a wild one!

maybe the newest parts are edible

but i'djust watch and see what it does next in its sculpture!

the one i found had no tree attached
