Very interesting. Thanks. There is so much more to the movie than there is Proulx's original short (11 pages) story. The screenwriters did a wonderful job of fleshing it out into a full length movie.

It may not have won the Oscar, but it had a lot of nominations, won so many other awards....and has opened the door for future filmakers.

Have you read the short story? I wonder what's its like. And yeah, those screenwriters did brilliantly. Maybe best picture isn't all what's its supposed to be.

Yes, I've read the story. It's very good and it's only 11 pages long. It was written for, and published in "The New Yorker" magazine in 1997. I found it at their website.
