Ed and Hank
Part One:  Friday Night - very short

by myeyesaintblue

Genre:  non-fiction
Pairing:  Ed & Hank
Rating:  PG, at the most

Disclaimer:  I know, somewhere out there, there's a guy named Ed and and a guy named Hank who at some point in their lives met the amazing Ms. Proulx and told her their story.  Jack and Ennis belong entirely to Ms. Proulx.  Ed and Hank belong only to each other.

This started as a one shot.  No really.  Links to all other parts are here:

Ed turns over, groaning as he sees Hank sitting across the room bathed in the glow of the computer screen. “What time is it, bud?  C’mon to bed….Old…..Need m’ beauty sleep.”

“Be right there.” Hank says, trying to stifle his laughter but letting it out a bit more since he now knew Ed was awake.

"They got 'em in Wyomin', Maine, Minnesota, South Dakota, Colorado, Montana... Now one of them's even got 'em in outer space, 'nother has Ennis on a psychologist's couch n 'nother has Jack throwin' his self in front of a train..."

Ed grins, “Don’t much care where they got ‘em….Long as they end up together.”

Hank ducks his head and smiles at Ed.

Ed hesitates, then turns serious, “C’ept when they hurt Jack, don’ like it t’all when they hurt Jack.”

Hank’s smile fades, “Y’know she ne’er thought all this would come out a' one little short….But they’re stories, jus’ stories…. Though that one came pretty close to…. People don’ mean nothin’ by it.  Mostly jus’ want ‘em to be happy.”

Ed, not at all liking the look his words put on Hank’s face, opens his arms towards Hank, giving him another grin, ‘Gotta admit, do like it when they end up happy…and rich.”

Ed is rewarded with Hank’s laugh as he quickly turns off the computer and climbs into bed and into Ed’s arms. “They don’ need ta be rich, jus’ need each other.”  His green eyes shining, Hank leans back in order to see Ed’s face, “Hey Ed, wanna try what I read ta ya - Y’know that one part from m' fav’rite story? Ed laughs, “You and those stories are goin ta be t' death a’ me.” Ed leans in for a kiss, “Oh well, might as well be buried with a smile on m' face….”

Later, as they’re drifting off to sleep in each other’s arms, Hank nuzzles against Ed’s neck and murmurs softly, “Some sweet life, eh Cowboy?”

Ed’s breath catches in his chest. Even after all these years he still has a hard time believing it’s possible to be this happy. He pulls Hank closer, “Yeah Rodeo, some sweet life.”
