Sungmin is setting the table when Kyuhyun enters the kitchen again after taking a bath, and after he calm himself down. It seems that the both of them never want to bring back what just happened earlier. He opens the refrigerator to get a bottle of water. But when he does, he pauses for awhile when he scan inside the machine.
“Who bought these?” Kyuhyun ask in confused, because if he’s not mistaken, he hasn’t shopped for the groceries. Sungmin turns her head immediately to face him.
“It was me.” Sungmin answers him.
“But how did you...?” Then Sungmin cut him off.
“I have some cash on my pocket. It’s enough for buying daily needs, because i saw nothing much left on the refrigerator.” Sungmin explain to him, slip her hands on her pocket while waiting on his respond. Kyuhyun let out a sigh.
“You know you don’t have to do that. I can fulfill our needs. From now on, just tell me if it’s empty or if there’s something you need. I will buy those things. And for your money, you have to save it. Just in case.” Kyuhyun says as he take a seat on the dining table.
“Don’t worry, Kyuhyun-sshi. I still have some on my pocket. I will save it. Thanks.” Sungmin answers him with a smile, then she sits beside him.
“You can use it for your own needs, or when it’s really needed.” Kyuhyun still continue giving her lecture without looking at her eyes, only a few times glances on her.
“Okay, i promise. And you can eat now before it’s cold. But i’m sorry if it’s not good.”
Kyuhyun takes a spoon of the dish and put it into his mouth, while Sungmin’s expecting his response in worry. Then he glances at his side, not directly on Sungmin, and nod his head twice. She immediately clasp her hands together happily, taking his nods as a good sign. She didn’t learn cooking from her maids for nothing after all.
She remember back then when she still stayed at her house. She’s usually accompanied by her maids, because her parents are both busy with family business. Of course her parents had prepared and planned her to take a part in their business. But not until Sungmin has a bachelor degree. And it was only three months ago that she graduated and got her degree. But instead of employing her in the company, her parents were arranging marriage between Sungmin and the only-son of Choi family who own one of the largest retail company in Korea.
So, during three months they prepared for the wedding which is planned two weeks from now. And during those times, their parents let Sungmin and Siwon getting to know each other. By the moments, Sungmin learned that Siwon doesn’t have a good manner and has a bad temper, despite of his handsome appearance. He doesn't know how to treat a woman properly. Although sometimes he was nice, but all of a sudden he would snap at her and pointing at her with his finger like a master did to his servant. Well, he’s not rude sexually, but he never respect what she had done to him. Although he would apologize after that, but what she couldn’t understand was he would do the same again, repeatedly. So, the relationship between them never get better, although he had said that he started to love her. But with his attitude, Sungmin can never learn to love him. And her heart will never tell her the opposite.
Sungmin wonders what her parents are thinking and doing when they found out that their only-daughter has ran away and disappear. Perhaps her father send his men to find her. And she doesn’t know how her mother’s feeling, whether she’s worried or angry. Sungmin doesn’t wish the last one. But as she thinks again, she doesn’t want her mother to be worried. She loves his mother so much. Although she rarely spent her time with Sungmin. But back when she was young, her mother always spent her time only to accompany her when sleeping, told her some stories about her past, her family, or simply told her about life and how a woman should act when she’s growing up.
Tears start forming in the corner of her eyes, and she subconsciously smile bitterly at no one in particular, only staring blankly at the dining table. Kyuhyun seems notice it, then wave his hand in front of her.
“Hey...”
“Huh?!” She’s back to reality, looking at Kyuhyun with her big round eyes.
“Are you okay?”
“Y-Yeah... I guess...” She replies gloomily in a low voice. “I just... miss my parents, miss my mom.” She frowns, blinking her eyes to prevent the tears fall down.
Meanwhile, Kyuhyun just nod his head understandingly, doesn’t know what to say. He of course understand, because he misses his mother as well. It’s been a long time since they had lunch together along with Ahra, his older sister. His father? Well, don’t ask. It’s a long story.
“Kyuhyun-sshi? It’s your turn for spacing out?” She chuckles.
“Huh? Oh, yeah...”
“Well, finish your dinner, ok? I.. i’m already sleepy. Just put the dishes on the sink, i’ll wash it tomorrow.” She says as she get up from the chair hesitantly. She feels something’s wrong when she will leave him to the bedroom. Why did i sleep in his bedroom while he’s sleeping in the living room? Who is the real host anyway? Doesn’t he know how much i feel bad for him about this? But, he is the one who keep insisting that i can sleep in the bedroom.
“Kyuhyun-sshi...”, she hesitantly try to ask him about this again. “Are you sure.. you let me sleep in your bedroom?”
Hearing this, Kyuhyun pause then place his spoon soundly on the plate, directly facing her. “I told you i don’t want to argue about this anymore. I own this place, so i’m the one who make a decision. Besides, i usually never sleep. Even now i will continue my work, so maybe i’ll stay up late.” Kyuhyun sighs, then add, only to make Sungmin feel warm inside. “You’re a woman, i’m a guy. What kind of guy who let a woman sleep outside while he’s sleeping in the bedroom? So.. don’t ask again, alright?” he says firmly.
Sungmin curves her lips subconsciously, find his attitude very amusing. “Okay, okay. I’m sorry. I won’t ask you anymore... But why don’t you just tell me which one i can do and cannot do? So i won’t bother you with stupid questions anymore?” Sungmin doesn’t know why she has a courage to talk like that to Kyuhyun.
She has learned so fast about Kyuhyun’s character. His coldness and his unstable mood, because sometimes he cares and sometimes ignorant, but sometimes he’s talkative and sometimes he got that unreadable look on his face, but suddenly he will become angry and so eager. But over all, Sungmin has learned that he’s just a shy person with a strong pride. He’s a kind-hearted inside. Just don’t bother him with something unimportant, because it’s wasting time. He’s very simple person after all. So, Sungmin decides that being patience is the only thing she can do when she face him. Well, actually Sungmin find his characters are so amusing. So, she never get mad when he suddenly yell at her, she will smile instead. She knows that Kyuhyun never meant to yell or shout at her. Just kind of... stubborn.
Kyuhyun sigh and give up when he hears her offer. So, that night end up with they’re arguing over simple things like who’s going to shop groceries, or who’s going to wash the dishes. They finally agree that Sungmin will do all the house chores, thanks to her stubborn, because according to her Kyuhyun is the one who responsible with their financial, before she herself find a job. And Kyuhyun’s kinda easily give up when he doesn’t have a make-sense excuse to refuse what Sungmin keep insist.
At the end, Sungmin is the one who smile smugly with the result. Well, it’s because Kyuhyun is indeed the person who is lack of smile. But inside, he is feeling weird as he now live together with someone else, not to mention it’s a girl. Now, it’s all ‘our’ and ‘us’, not ‘me’ and ‘my’ anymore. Those words are kind of absurd for him. He never used it before. But not that it bothers him. He doesn’t even understand why he easily let a stranger stay at his apartment. Maybe deep inside, he knows that Sungmin is a kind person and trustable.
Finally tonight, for the first time since he live alone by himself, he smiles genuinely in his deep sleep. Maybe having a roommate isn’t bad at all.
