Part 3: I’m Lost Without You
Meanwhile, after Hyukjae left the teacher’s room, leaving his best friends crying, he can’t help but stay there, eavesdropping the sound of their crying. No one knows that Hyukjae feels the same pain with them. He has to leave his best friends, but he doesn’t know why he choose it that way. The only thing that he think of is his credibility of being a smart and one of the best student. He knows that doing his girlfriend paper is wrong, but he just couldn’t see Hara’s pleading face. She couldn’t finish it without his help. That’s why he did the paper. He just wanted to help.
But he knew that no one had to know it. It’s just between him and Hara. But when the rumors about him doing Hara’s paper was spread in entire school, he couldn’t help but felt scared. This is their last year. He will face the final exams soon. And he doesn’t want the rumors making him in the difficult position. He just can’t destroy his own credibility. So, he blames Sungmin for this. He is mad at Sungmin. If only she didn’t assume and confronted Hara, the rumors wouldn’t blow up to the surface. And when Mr. Kim investigated this case, he knew he couldn’t admit it. Because it would turn down his credibility, or made Hara in a danger position. That’s why, he never admitted it. Never. Even to his best friends. He won’t let them know the truth. He feel ashamed of himself. And he’s too stubborn to just apologize to his best friends and admit he did wrong. He’s just too stubborn in his strong pride. Or maybe he’s just too idiot with his stupid pride.
He feels a pang in his heart when he hears Donghae’s pleading voice, mumbling “Give me back my old best friend...”. Do i really change now? Did Hara really affect that much to myself? Please, Hae... don’t cry. You know i can’t take it if you’re crying. It hurts me. I am sorry, but you can’t accept my choices, you can’t accept my girlfriend. And i can’t just leave her. I’m sorry that i hurt you. But we know it’s all too late now. I will never be able to fix all of this. Let God leads our ways, whether we can be together again or not. But for now, it’s all too late. I’m regretting to lose you, but it’s just all too late now to fix it. And maybe i couldn’t be forgiven for all my faults. If only i could choose you and at the same time i can choose Hara, i’m sure we would be fine just like before.

The final exam is coming. Donghae is always seen go home early, thinking that she better study at home. She doesn’t care even though Sungmin and Kyuhyun or Kibum ask her to study together. She keeps avoiding her friends. She’s grateful that she has something to distract her from ‘losing a friend’ issue. But sometimes, she can’t help but cry when suddenly Hyukjae’s face crosses her mind.
She already threw away the fish pen Hyukjae bought for her, and deleted their photos on her phone. But one thing, she doesn’t delete his phone number from her phonebook. And she doesn’t even know why. Maybe deep inside, she still wish him to come back to her. She can’t let him go after all.
Meanwhile, the same thing happen to Hyukjae. He’s been too engrossed by studying hard for the final exam. He wants to be the best, as always. He’s rarely seen with his girlfriend, Hara. He goes home quickly after school, while Hara seems doing fine with her usual friends. Hyukjae doesn’t know why, ever since that day he feel careless about Hara. He never get too affectionate to her like before. He always positively think that it might be because he thinks about final exam too much, until he can’t pay attention to his girlfriend.
On the other hand, unexpectedly Hyukjae is more thinking about Donghae. He still can’t get rid of her. Her laughter, her childish whines, her pout, have been distracted him from his study.
Why does she never leave me alone? She keeps distracting my thought. Am i able to let go of her? Why do i feel so lost without her? Maybe i can’t let her go after all. But, am i able to fix everything with her? Would she even accept me again?

Donghae smiles widely in relief as she’s already out of the class. That was the last subject for their final exam. And she thinks she’s doing fine with all the subjects. Sungmin looks at her with sparkling eyes and a smile as wide as Donghae’s. Ever since that day, Sungmin rarely saw her smile.
“You look so happy. You’re doing fine with your exam, Hae?” Sungmin asks her as she grabs her hand and hold it. They walk to the cafeteria hand in hand, with Kyuhyun follow behind who’s too engrossed to his PSP.
“I think so, Min. Aah, I’m so relieved now...”
Sungmin can’t help but smiling widely seeing her look like she forget about Hyukjae for a moment. “How about we go to the mall tomorrow, Hae? Shopping, or just lurking around? C’mon, Hae!”
“No way! I will only become a bug around you two!” Donghae whines, referring to Kyuhyun.
“Who says that i will bring Kyuhyun along? Of course, it’s just the two of us, Hae!” Sungmin explains convincingly.
“Eh? Are you sure, Min?”
“So, you’re not including me, baby? How could you...?” Kyuhyun fakes a whine. Sungmin sighs and rolls her eyes.
“Tomorrow is gonna be a girls’ day, Kyu. And Hae, don’t forget, we’re gonna search a dress for the prom night as well!” Sungmin’s being enthusiastic. But Donghae frowns hearing that.
“I’m not gonna attend the prom night, Min. It’s not only because i don’t have a partner, but also because i don’t want to... I’m not in the mood for a prom. I’ll better keep at home.”
“What?! Kibum hasn’t asked you yet? Oh, i will kill him for sure. But just wait, i think he’s going to do it today. Hae, please, you need to entertain yourself. I will help you to prepare everything. I promise you will enjoy the prom night. We’re gonna accompany you, okay...?”
“Yeah, Minnie’s right, Hae. You need to have fun for a while. Come with us. We’re not gonna leave you. If Kibum didn’t ask you, it means i will have two partners..” Kyuhyun assures her, grinning at the end of his statements as he think about having two cute girls for prom night.
“I don’t know, Kyu, Min. I’ll think about that. Thanks, you two have been with me since the beginning.”

“Donghae... would you be my partner for the prom night?” Kibum suddenly whispers to Donghae’s ear in the middle of their lunch. He takes the advantage as Kyumin couple’s busy with their usual lovey dovey scene. Donghae’s taken a back, staring at him contemplatively. Kibum’s just grinning like a fool in response. This scene makes Kyumin couple distracted. Sungmin elbows her boyfriend, gesturing him to watch the scene.
“I don’t know, Kibum... I think i’m not in the mood for meeting a lot of people. I’d rather be staying at home. I don’t wanna be in the crowd. I think i need quietness for a moment...” and i don’t want to meet Hyukjae.
She herself is not sure with her own answer. Well, she said the truth, but she feels bad for Kibum if she reject him. she’s contemplating, while Kibum’s still waiting for her sure answer patiently. He never lose his hope.
“I told you, you need to entertain yourself for a while, Hae. You’ve been in a hard time lately. You don’t have to worry because Kibum will always beside you. Me and Kyu also. Don’t be too selfish, Hae...” Sungmin gives her some advice, because she knows how she’s been doing after that day.
“Well, she’s indeed a fish.” Kyuhyun interrupts in a low voice jokingly, referring to ‘selfish’ word. Sungmin glares at him with ‘It’s not funny’ face. But Kibum laughs and Donghae chuckles loudly. In the end, Sungmin laughs either, seeing the changing mood on Donghae’s face.
“Okay... Fine! I’ll go with you, Kibum.” She smiles in surrender.
“Yes! Thanks, Hae.” He squishes her shoulder eagerly, can’t resist her cuteness.
Little did they know, someone has been watching their scenes from afar. Hyukjae clenches his jaw exasperatedly. But there’s nothing he can do, he knows it. It was him who left his best friends first. And seeing donghae with that Kibum, gives him the feeling of wanting to punch someone on the face. Geez, i admit i indeed can’t let go of her after all. I can’t lose her in any way.

Donghae thinks that she’s still not sure about going to prom. She’s not ready to see Hyukjae, not to mention he’ll be with his girlfriend. Everyday at school, she always avoid some places where she thinks she probably can meet him. she can’t guarantee that she can hold her tears if she meets him, accidentally or not.
Yes, she’s still angry at him. She still can’t believe that he has changed now. He had hurt her and Sungmin. Her best friend hurt her other best friend, means he hurt her too.
“Hae-ah, what are you thinking? You seem so lost.” Sungmin look at her through the mirror. She’s checking her pink prom dress on Donghae’s mirror, in her room. They are currently getting ready together for the prom night at Donghae’s house. Sungmin will help her for the make-up and hair-do. Donghae just give up everything to her since she doesn’t know what should do.
“Huh?” she’s snapped from her thought.
“Hyukjae?” Sungmin ask her assumption to her. Donghae keeps silent as Sungmin guess it right.
“You still think about him? You know you’ve changed ever since he left us. You become quiet and always look frowning. You seem so lost without him. Tell me... what is he for you personally, Hae? I can sense that you love him more than a friend, don’t you?” Sungmin approaches her and sit with her on the bed. Donghae looks like she’s thinking hard, while Sungmin’s waiting for her response patiently. She knows that it’s really hard for Donghae to forget him.
Donghae keeps her head down, staring blankly at her own fingers. Her lips are trembling. And there it is! She finally can’t take it anymore. She’s crying her heart out. she sheds tears of pain, tears of regret, tears of broken heart, tears of anger, tears of lost, tears of missing, tears of love. She lets it all out. She’s been hiding her feelings from her best friends all this time, and she just can’t take it anymore.
“Let it out, Hae. Let it all out...” Sungmin reassures her, taking her to her embrace. Donghae sobs on her shoulder. Luckily that they haven’t put the make-up on yet, or it would become a mess.
“I loved him, Min... I love him so much. But he never understand...” Donghae manages to speak between her sobs and sniffs.
“I know, Hae, i know...” Sungmin’s sure that comforting and listening to her are the best thing to do at the moment. She caress her back and hair comfortingly.
“I don’t wanna see him anymore, Min. I just can’t... It hurts me. I hate him, but... i m-miss him. I miss the old Hyukkie...” and Sungmin cries with her too, because she miss his childhood friend either.

After an hour of riding, the four of them step into the hall. Sungmin with her pink satin dress, clutch Kyuhyun’s arm who look very handsome with his black suit and grey shirt. Donghae who walk nervously with her blue ocean dress, bites her lower lip as she look around the hall. Seeing her nervousness, Kibum takes her hand and hold it. He gives Donghae his killer smile when she look up at him in surprise.
“I forgot to tell you this. You look so beautiful tonight.” Kibum whispers to her ear. Donghae only smile weakly in response.
The hall has been half-full with the last grade students. When they arrive, some of friends greets them or compliment them, or tease them. Specifically to Kibum who has such a cute partner tonight. But some girls glare at Donghae because Kibum is one of the hottest available boy in their school.
So, there they are. When the prom night begins and music starts, without thinking Kyuhyun and Sungmin walk to the dance floor. It needs more than a minute for Kibum to finally get Donghae to the dance floor. It’s the first time for her that she doesn’t want to dance when they play the music. She’s a dancer for God’s sake. But she’s just not in the mood. Not to mention, Hyukjae is also there with Hara.
Donghae lets Kibum lead the dance, while Kyumin couple seem so having fun. Knowing the situation, Kibum choose to avoid to get near from Hyukjae and his partner. He keeps distracting her with talking about random things. But it fails to distract her as she can’t help but keep glancing at the other couple. And she blames herself for doing that.
The MCs finally announce Hyukjae and Hara as the king and the queen of the dance floor, based on the judgement from their dance teacher. And Donghae doesn’t know the certain reason, but it makes her more emotional. The one thing she needs now is going home. Never ever she wants to look at their faces, especially that Hara bitch.
“Kibum.. I’m tired. Can we... go home now? Can you ride me home now? Please...” she pleads with teary eyes. Shit! Why do i have to cry? No way, not for him. Not again.
Kibum understand what she mean. He look at her with concern gaze, and pull her to his chest. “I’m sorry, Hae. I shouldn’t be so selfish to ask you come with me to the prom if this is the result.” Damn that arrogant bastard. He hurt this precious girl. Damn you, Hyukjae! If only i could kill you right now, i will do it. But i know Donghae would hate me if i did it.
“What’s wrong, Kibum?” Sungmin interrupts concernedly in a low voice. Kibum just gesture her to not ask more, and Sungmin nods in understand.
“I have to take her home first. Is that okay with you guys?” Kibum want to fly her home if he could.
“You can take my car if you need.” Kyuhyun butt in.
“No, it’s okay. We’ll take a cab.”
On the way home, they don’t talk much. Kibum knows that she wants to be alone now, and he will let her be.
“Thanks, Kibum-ah. You.. always stay beside me. I’m sorry for ruining your night.” Donghae says apologetically, as they arrive at her house.
“No need to say sorry. It’s okay. And i will always stay with you no matter what.” He pats her head lovingly then caress her cheek. “Go inside now, and have a rest, okay?” She nods and smile weakly in response.
“Goodnight, Hae. Sleep well.” He says as she’s now at the doorframe.
“Thanks... Goodnight.” And she closes the door. I'm so sorry, Kibum...

On the other hand, Hyukjae’s mood has been swinging all the way, but he doesn’t know why. He feels the urge to pry Hara’s hand from his arm. It’s getting worse when he saw Donghae and Kibum walk in hand in hand. Are they together now? Geez, why i feel so... jealous? I’m not, am i? Hae, you look very beautiful tonight. Why did i never realize it before? But why you come with him? Oh God, why am i so stupid and selfish for thinking that way, when i’m here with another girl? But, i can’t stand to see it. Don’t tell me they’re a couple now. Please...

“I don’t wanna see him anymore, Min. I just can’t... It hurts me. I hate him, but... i m-miss him. I miss the old Hyukkie...” and Sungmin cries with her too, because she miss his childhood friend either.

After an hour of riding, the four of them step into the hall. Sungmin with her pink satin dress, clutch Kyuhyun’s arm who look very handsome with his black suit and grey shirt. Donghae who walk nervously with her blue ocean dress, bites her lower lip as she look around the hall. Seeing her nervousness, Kibum takes her hand and hold it. He gives Donghae his killer smile when she look up at him in surprise.
“I forgot to tell you this. You look so beautiful tonight.” Kibum whispers to her ear. Donghae only smile weakly in response.
The hall has been half-full with the last grade students. When they arrive, some of friends greets them or compliment them, or tease them. Specifically to Kibum who has such a cute partner tonight. But some girls glare at Donghae because Kibum is one of the hottest available boy in their school.
So, there they are. When the prom night begins and music starts, without thinking Kyuhyun and Sungmin walk to the dance floor. It needs more than a minute for Kibum to finally get Donghae to the dance floor. It’s the first time for her that she doesn’t want to dance when they play the music. She’s a dancer for God’s sake. But she’s just not in the mood. Not to mention, Hyukjae is also there with Hara.
Donghae lets Kibum lead the dance, while Kyumin couple seem so having fun. Knowing the situation, Kibum choose to avoid to get near from Hyukjae and his partner. He keeps distracting her with talking about random things. But it fails to distract her as she can’t help but keep glancing at the other couple. And she blames herself for doing that.
The MCs finally announce Hyukjae and Hara as the king and the queen of the dance floor, based on the judgement from their dance teacher. And Donghae doesn’t know the certain reason, but it makes her more emotional. The one thing she needs now is going home. Never ever she wants to look at their faces, especially that Hara bitch.
“Kibum.. I’m tired. Can we... go home now? Can you ride me home now? Please...” she pleads with teary eyes. Shit! Why do i have to cry? No way, not for him. Not again.
Kibum understand what she mean. He look at her with concern gaze, and pull her to his chest. “I’m sorry, Hae. I shouldn’t be so selfish to ask you come with me to the prom if this is the result.” Damn that arrogant bastard. He hurt this precious girl. Damn you, Hyukjae! If only i could kill you right now, i will do it. But i know Donghae would hate me if i did it.
“What’s wrong, Kibum?” Sungmin interrupts concernedly in a low voice. Kibum just gesture her to not ask more, and Sungmin nods in understand.
“I have to take her home first. Is that okay with you guys?” Kibum want to fly her home if he could.
“You can take my car if you need.” Kyuhyun butt in.
“No, it’s okay. We’ll take a cab.”
On the way home, they don’t talk much. Kibum knows that she wants to be alone now, and he will let her be.
“Thanks, Kibum-ah. You.. always stay beside me. I’m sorry for ruining your night.” Donghae says apologetically, as they arrive at her house.
“No need to say sorry. It’s okay. And i will always stay with you no matter what.” He pats her head lovingly then caress her cheek. “Go inside now, and have a rest, okay?” She nods and smile weakly in response.
“Goodnight, Hae. Sleep well.” He says as she’s now at the doorframe.
“Thanks... Goodnight.” And she closes the door. I'm so sorry, Kibum...

On the other hand, Hyukjae’s mood has been swinging all the way, but he doesn’t know why. He feels the urge to pry Hara’s hand from his arm. It’s getting worse when he saw Donghae and Kibum walk in hand in hand. Are they together now? Geez, why i feel so... jealous? I’m not, am i? Hae, you look very beautiful tonight. Why did i never realize it before? But why you come with him? Oh God, why am i so stupid and selfish for thinking that way, when i’m here with another girl? But, i can’t stand to see it. Don’t tell me they’re a couple now. Please...
