Title: Some Things Never Change
Pairing: Ianto/Rhys friendship
Rating: PG
Genre: Humour? Maybe.
Warnings/Spoilers: Not a one.
Summary: Ianto and Rhys have gone to the pub to watch rugby. The challenge was to include Rhys breaking a chair and the phrase “mental Americans”.

“That was some game!” grinned Rhys, reaching for his pint. Ianto nodded his agreement and drained the last of his.

“I believe it’s your round,” he said, sitting back in his chair and tipping his empty glass towards Rhys.

Rhys got up at pushed his way through the crowd to get to the bar. The pub was packed, a sea of red Rugby jerseys stretched tightly over beer bellies or varying size. There was a lot of back patting and manly hugging that wouldn’t happen under any other circumstances. It was comforting to know that even though the world, for him, had changed beyond comprehension in most ways, some things never changed.

Rhys was laughing when he got back from the bar.

“Here, you should have heard this pair of mental Americans I met at the bar!”

Ianto leant back in his chair, his eyebrow raised questioningly, “Mental Americans?”

“Yeah, they were going on about how Rugby isn’t a patch on American Football. I mean come on! American football? It’s hardly a game at all with all that padding!”

“Indeed.”

“And they just kept on, bloody mental! Almost as bad as that bloody mental American you work for!”

“Jack?”

Rhys took a long sip of his beer, “Yeah, Jack. With his boots and his big flappy coat. And that’s not mentioning the flash car that is clearly compensating for something!” He .laughed heartily, clearly pleased with his own joke.

Ianto waited until Rhys, clearly in the mood to celebrate, decided to down his drink.

“You do know I’m sleeping with Jack?”

He smirked as Rhys gulped, choking on his beer and causing a coughing fit.

“Well well, you are a dark horse, eh?” said Rhys, once he had regained his composure, “let me get you another pint and you can tell me how that happened.”

Rhys picked up the empty glasses and headed back to the bar.

“And Rhys? Jack has nothing he needs to compensate for. Nothing at all.”

Rhys turned to look at Ianto in shock. He moved too quickly for a man several pints in and completely misjudged the move. His foot caught on the leg chair he had just vacated, sending him crashing to the floor. The chair fell to the ground with a loud bang causing a long crack to appear along its back. The pub erupted with laughter and joking applause as Rhys sat on the floor, a bemused look on his face. Laughing he raised a hand to the crowd of spectators.
He looked up at Ianto, who got up from his seat and laughing, offered him a hand.

“Bloody Torchwood,” Rhys Chuckled to himself.
