I'm still hoping that Kate will get more development (and individual storylines) in season 3 - it's just a really faint hope that's getting crushed kind of quickly. (They do still have most of the second half of the season to finish writing/filming as far as I can tell, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they'll have more Kate then either.) Yeah, Penance is one of my favorite Kate episodes too (I love backstory episodes).
Hopefully Kate is part of the REALLY really good stuff that the producers don't want spoiled? And maybe all that stuff will be revealed in her relationships with other team members and she'll have a larger role all by herself in investigating things?
One can dream/hope right?
Also, I really like your point about not putting Kate into a relationship with one of the main team members. As much as I like the idea of Kate/Will, I'd like Kate to be more established (and to be seen by most fans as an important/awesome/essential character) before that ever happens.
One can hope (and Kate being a part of the central story arc sounds awesome). There's still the second half of the season that they're working on, at least, so there's a chance she could be having more individual/Kate-centric material. *crosses fingers*
I'm glad that made sense, and my point came across well. (I was a little worried I was being too rambly to make any sense or proper sentence structure.) And everyone else has already had not-main character love interests (Henry & Rachel; Will & Clara; Helen & Olaf), so I hope guess it's Kate's turn? Hopefully this will turn into an opportunity for the writers to explore Kate more, and not just a random romantic plot thrown into the season ("I did it for the lulz" is not proper motivation for anyone).
I don't know - since the only mentions of Kate in any of the con reports that I've read (and I've read several, including yours) have been basically all about that she is getting kissed (which is essentially my point - what about Kate, not Kate/anyone? Hopefully there was news other than about Kate's romantic interest(s), but I wouldn't know because I didn't go to the con and that is all that anyone has mentioned. D: ), I'm going to choose to believe it when I see it. *cynic*
