They started sleeping in the same room out of simple necessity rather than any real desire. When Helen brought Kate back to the Sanctuary, shivering and suffering from shock, she was hesitant to leave her alone in the infirmary for any real length of time. When Kate was cleared to go back to her regular rooms, Helen moved in with her without having to be asked. She knew what the Cabal was capable of, and she shuddered to think about how they would treat Kate. At first she thought she could stay close. She was lost, confused, frightened, and she wanted the comfort of home until she figured things out. But it quickly became clear that it wouldn't be an option. Her mother sensed her presence, felt when she was close, and it was slowly driving her insane. It caused Helen such grief that Ashley had no choice but to leave. She waited until her mother was asleep before she kissed her cheek and promised she would come back when she figured out a way to come back right
