Pain is a mental response. Dreams are mental in nature, so there's no reason that we should not be able to feel pain. I can confirm that this is true from personal experience. Taste is also valid (at least for me), so perhaps you should have tried the wedding cake before you woke up? You get the mental response (yum!) without the physical response (beer belly)!

But yeah, interesting dream. At least you know your day can only get better! :)
