Time seems to have gotten away from me for a couple of weeks; I only realized today that it's January. I hope I haven't been neglecting anything. [She offers an apologetic smile, which turns friendly and ever-so-slightly dorky.] Hello to all the new arrivals! I'm Velma.

[And now for a slightly awkward pause.]If anyone sees a robotic mouse, please ( Read more... )

Of course! If I can find it.

I could help you look! Did you program it with some kind of sentience, or does it just go places at random?

I programmed it to act the way a mouse naturally would. I intended to install voice recognition software, so it would respond to me, but it, um, escaped.

Yeah, Zoey left around Christmas.

More robotic animals, huh? Does it talk?

That's too bad. No, I mean, I'm sure it's good for her, but it's always too bad to see someone friendly go.

I suppose I could program it to, but no, it only squeaks.

Yeah, she was pretty nice.

Have you seen the robot dog, K9?

I didn't know we had a robot dog on board, but I'd love to take a look. Is it yours?

A robotic mouse, you say? Does it respond to a specific protocol? Or, ah... a name?

[What? Of course he's interested.]

Unfortunately, it escaped from its cage before I could finish programming it. In all probability, it will only respond to external stimuli the way a real mouse would.

I see. And I suppose it hasn't got a standard scent to it. I'll certainly keep an eye out, and go looking when I've got a chance. What powers it?

It's a self-recharging battery.

I hope that you find it. If it should have any level of sentience then the outside world may prove distressing for it in the absence of finalized programming. [He empathizes with it.]

Thanks. I fully intend to find it as quickly as possible. I don't want anything or anyone to hurt it, either.

A robot mouse? I think I saw it in the dining hall about an hour ago. I only saw it in passing it when it scurried across the floor. I thought it was an odd color of silver-gray but didn't think much of it. A mouse with a strange color would hardly by the weirdest thing on this boat.
