I've fallen a tad behind, only twelve films. Thanks to liamtheruiner & chocolatebark, I'm compiling a third movie moments list; my first two are here & here. It's been nearly five years since that second one! I've seen so many more films, & my outlook toward film has changed a bit, as well. (Thanks, film school.) I won't repeat films used previously in th upcoming list, & I ( Read more... )

the copy of awaara i got from netflix didn't subtitle the songs, so i always wonder if i missed anything.

as to making these lists, i am committed for every 150 movies i watch that i rate high enough to matter or to which i make a note of having a good moment. it evened out to almost 200 total, due to some luck in movie selection.

Thankfully Eros, th distribution company most of my Bollywood dvds are from, subtitles all th songs! Nehaflix.com is a great super-cheap place for Bollywood films, that's mostly where I go. I'm trying to remember what th songs translate to in Awaara...th first involves (obvs) a wife being thrown out on th streets, th heaven one repeats "come to me my love" a lot, Raj's first song is "I'm a tramp"...I can't remember th others' lyrics though.

I think that's a good plan; I really love making lists, I'm still working on my top 100 OAT. Th moments lists are really th best kind, though; I really think that what people take away from films they see is a v. personal thing, & it's intriguing!

100% in agreement about the holy girl. everytime i watch a martel film i'm like "GET READY, THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST MOVIE" ever, and then they just end up being regular-style good.

tale of tales sounds interesting. i'll have to check that one out. chris marker-ish + animation = yes please.

finally, i have to say that i'm vaguely squeamish about breastfeeding too? my GF was horrified to discover this! my sensitive-gender-studies-boy card was nearly revoked! but i can't help it! i don't like having to think about things being drained from people. vampires can ick me out sometimes too, but only in super-gross contexts (i.e. trouble every day)

I'm surprised you haven't seen Tale of Tales! It's so perfect & I think you'd love it.

Th SOUNDS in th Black Moon breastfeeding scenes were so gross, & part of it was th fact it's an old woman being breastfed, bleh.

Was 1935 the one with the dancing pianos? ghost_dinosaur February 15 2011, 02:26:46 UTC
Cause that was crazy amazing and enough to make me like {whatever movie it was in} even though most of the rest of it was super boring.

It was! "Th Words are in my Heart" number. I was bad & kind of was reading while watching it, so I missed some of th plot.

Also, I rewatched Showgirls via Netflix Instant today for my newest moments list! I'd somehow forgotten how AMAZING it is.

I plan on rewatching Showgirls myself pretty soon ghost_dinosaur February 15 2011, 06:09:40 UTC
As it is going to be one of the 25 movies I plan to write a long-ish 2k-or-something word essay thing on.

I'm excited to read those essays! I though about doing maybe th top 10 for my new list of 100, but I'm unsure what direction I want to take my film writing so I need to feel it out first.

It's so ridiculously awesome! I think my favourite era for Bollywood is th mid-70s, things were so OTT then!

OMG I need to watch Barsaat this weekend, thanks so much!

I'm always sad that Joan B. was mostly th "kooky best friend" archetype, but in Blonde Crazy she's th lead & is awesome.
