INFO POST
This is just my app with the samples and contact info removed, but if you have no idea who this one-eyed BAMF is you can start here.

For public/pop culture knowledge, go here.

Canon Character and Series: Date Masamune, Sengoku Basara
In-Game Name: Masamune Date
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Position & Ship: Fiertia, boatswain or seaman

Appearance: Masamune is a tall, lean man with an patch over his right eye. He used the patch as a child when his eye socket was healing up, and never put in a glass eye instead because they look creepy to a six-year-old kid, and the eye patch made him look like the pirate he was born to be. His good eye is dark, near black, and he has a fairly thin aquiline nose and a mouth generally at rest in a smug half-smile. That smugness also comes out in the way he generally stands - arms crossed and head to one side - as if even when he's not "ready for action" he's still more ready for you than you will ever be for him.

While Masamune cleaned up well when dealing with potential customers for his ship's services (Kojuuro made him wear a suit, and it was a very nice suit indeed), and makes himself incredibly spiffy when going into battle with his brigantine and his helmet with giant crescent horns, appearance isn't a priority for him. His chestnut brown hair is generally very roughly cut and hanging halfway down his neck unless it's shoved up under a hat or helmet for battle. Under normal circumstances, he barely bothers to dress, instead going around his ship in a cheap yukata and sandals with one of his swords as the only sign of his authority.

Personality: When people first meet Masamune, he radiates confidence. No, not confidence. Arrogance. Granted, his high opinion of himself is generally justified, but he wants to make you know how awesome he is too. And being that amazing means that he knows he's going to succeed, no matter what. He's going to see whatever he's at through until the end, through the sheer power of determination and either power or cunning, no matter what. Yes, he'll step right into your trap. But he knows the trap is there, and he knows the risks of "falling" into it.

Surprising as it may be for his former profession, he does have a very strong sense of honor. While he thinks up his own traps and has a general "fuck the Watch" attitude, it's the kind of "unfair" fighting that's considered fair by long-term use. He's not going to attack an unarmed man or a ship he knows is defenseless, and while he's killed a few people that most people would regret, they set themselves out as fair game. Seeing someone else break those general rules - and he never had until Nobunaga Oda came on the scene - is the only thing that can stop him in his tracks.

There's no way he could have gotten as far as he did on just brainpower and determination. Even though he has a fairly low-key personality in most situations, his happiness coming out more in sly, playful behavior than open joy, he's able to act excited over something important to him. Hell, one of his battle cries is "LET'S PARTY!" Even though that joy is over-acted for the benefit of others, it's infectious, and it gets others to work for him.

But even though he isn't as excitable as he acts, Masamune is still a friendly guy. When he thinks that a man is worth something, he wants to be his friend. While he usually makes overtures towards friendship by challenging someone to a fight, if he meets his match he'll never let him down after it. His friends aren't necessarily his equals (though he'd consider Kojuuro his closest friend and peer despite him having been his XO), but more like younger brothers or sisters. If "shit's crazy", he'll tell them. Or show them. By punching them.

Abilities/Weapons: Masamune has six swords. Six goddamn swords: three for each hand. Sometimes he uses them as very long katars, but he can also engage in more traditional swordplay if he doesn't have the space. He calls his swords "The Claws of the Dragon", and they're his symbol as much as the eyepatch is. Someone who has such an unorthodox fighting style has to be either very skilled with it or a laughingstock, and Masamune is too proud to look ridiculous.

His personality - the confidence, the ability to get results, and knowing what the people in his care want - makes him a very effective leader. Back in his days as a pirate, he kept his crew happy, since they wanted victory and loot, but they followed him not just for that. He instilled pride in them as a ship.

How well can your character hack?: Easy-medium; however, he usually goes for brute-force solutions to code rather than subtle so if someone else catches him trying to hack an entry they can usually foil it.

Weaknesses: You know how up in "abilities" I said that Masamune is a born leader? That means he's never had to follow orders. Even put in a high position on the Fiertia, he'll still have to answer to Yuri and Jabu, and he normally only answers to his own honor. Also, even though he knows the risks before he does crazy things, he still does them. In canon it's never come back to him, but up against someone who can stay a step ahead, no amount of power or determination is going to let him catch up.

History (slightly Senbasa based, slightly RL history): The Date family are all a bunch of pirates based out of Trewe. Well, sometimes they're privateers, when the government wants something blown up with maximum efficiency and minimum subtlety. But mostly they're pirates, and they would rather fight out their rivalries with a few other would-be "pirate lords" such as the Takeda and Oda families. Every last one of them.

From a very early age, this included young Masamune, his father's oldest son. Life on board his father's ship, the Oshuu, was exactly what he wanted: a chance to fight and show off and, well, as he puts it, party. Losing his right eye - it got infected as part of an illness when he was about seven - didn't slow him down: even with all the problems that causes, he learned to compensate for a smaller field of vision and balance problems.

Without Kojuuro Katakura, though, living like that would have been harder. Kojuuro was the son of Masamune's father's first mate, and being the only children their age on the Oshuu, spent a lot of time together. They grew into very close friends, and even if the relationship of captain's son to officer's son meant that Masamune expected Kojuuro to follow where he led, Kojuuro guiding Masamune from behind (sometimes literally, in the weeks after he lost that eye) made him known as "the Dragon's Right Eye" to Masamune's "One-Eyed Dragon". They've saved each other's lives a few times, not only in battle - they fought alongside the men since they were twelve or thirteen - and at times Masamune screwed around because of course he knew what he was getting into, he did it on purpose. Just ask either of them about the things Masamune's gotten up to in town with his horse Mikazuki, especially after he thought it would be a good idea to trick its harness out like a velocipede.

Masamune didn't lose all the fun of being a pirate when he was eighteen and his father died. He took over the Oshuu, and while he raised a lot of hell as a privateer for the Vohemaro government (the contract ended after a year, the government learning that the Oshuu's new captain was a bit overzealous for their needs), most of his time in the air was spent fighting Takeda and Oda.

But in those past five years, Nobunaga Oda had been building up the Owari and assembling a fleet, instead of just keeping to one ship passed down through the family like the tradition was. He planned to take control of the skies, and when he failed at taking down the Date by battle, he decided to use more underhanded methods.

The resulting explosion at the Trewe skyport destroyed thirty-two sailors, fifteen bystanders, and two hundred years of Date family tradition. Masamune had disembarked fifteen minutes beforehand, and was close enough to hear the gunpowder stores go up in flames and watch the Oshuu splinter into matchsticks. Adding further injury to this, one of Nobunaga's minions, who had been by to observe, taunted him into a fight and gave him a nasty abdominal wound it took him an hour to realize had been made in his rage and shock.

As he healed, Masamune and Kojuuro started to plan the Date's resurrection and vengeance on Nobunaga. The Oshuu had been in for improvements already paid for, which had cleaned out their treasury. Not even calling in every favor they had would get them a ship to take on Nobunaga with, and after an...incident with a local bank, he couldn't get money for it legitimately.

Pirates aren't known for buying ships, though, so when Kojuuro came to Masamune with a list of private ships currently docked at the skyport, injuries or no, Masamune was going to get up to scope out which one he wanted to make his own. Though there were other ships that looked easier to commandeer, he and Kojuuro settled on Yuri Lowell's Fiertia after taking into account what they knew about it, as well as another ship as a backup (on Kojuuro's insistence). For the first time in their lives, the two split up to sign on to others' ships, and for the first time in years, Masamune would be taking orders from someone not himself.

This isn't going to be the kind of party Masamune likes, but he's going to wait.
