'Gilly Doo'. They're protectors of the forest. They mark trees we're allowed to use for our own benefit, without rousing the wrath of the rest of the forest.
And don't worry about me. It's just a couple of scrapes. [And a festering bite on her leg that she's healing now...]

There are many things. The trees themselves are animate in a way many do not think of.
