Hmmm, thinking about it now (on my nth reread of this because it's that amazing), "in-character" isn't the right word given how everyone has been butchered in the show. So suffice it to say that everybody here is awesome and...I'm going to read this again now.

That last line just cinched it all together! Loved it, mystery-writer. Especially loved Carter as an actual bad guy, rather than just a bad boy (though the possibility of his weak nerves bolstered by dutch courage did round it out nicely).
