Personally I don't understand the fascination aside from the fact that it's 'meant' to be cool and in fashion to like it. It's the same bullshit pop crap like we have in our charts but sung by Japanese people.

The only discernable difference (aside from it all being in Japanese) is that they seem to enjoy doing it more rather than just creating the facade illusion that they are actually into what they are doing whilst in reality only thinking of the money they are making from pop music.

But then we all have our opinions.

Some Japanese Industrial and Metal bands are awesome however.

There's a couple of tracks I heard which were really good acoustic kinda things, totally blew me away, very emotional tracks. Plus as you said, you can actually hear they're having fun making the music instead of the fixed rictus grins on the faces of our 'pop idols'. tossers.

But yeah, the majority of it is crap but it's 'hip' so it's ok, they can get away with it.

There are a couple of songs that I've heard by female artists that I guess you'd class as love songs that I've heard and actually liked, but then for m I think it was the language and the actual feeling of emotion rather than feeling faked. Doesn't make me a fan of the genre though, just liked the odd song here or there and it wouldn't make me go and buy/download anything either.

Japanese composers however are fantastic, I love the work of Kenji Kawai (most known for Ghost in the Shell but his other work is ace) for example.

Noriko Matsueda and Takehito Eguchi are damn good composers, lot of respect for them. Did the FF stuff amongst others.
