Had to be up bright and early this morning to walk Pip and be back in time for a sales guy from British Gas, who came to give me a quote for a new boiler. £2750, which is only a grand more than I was expecting! My expression must have told him he was wasting his time as he gave me the price, then folded his ;laptop, made his excuses and left. I was ( Read more... )

I've contacted my usual plumber for a quote. He's off on holiday for now so it'll be a week or two. I just hope the boiler doesn't break down completely in the meantime.

BTW, have you seen this: http://www.humblebundle.com/weekly

How much for a new boiler? Gee's was that British Gas adding their "commission" ??? Man I tell you what those guys always charge the most !

That's why I never use them, but just get quotes instead. In fact it's getting quotes that got me my new boiler from STL Heating and Energy!

*stunned by price of boilers* We recently paid three and half thousand dollars to get solar panels installed to run our whole house. That included wages for qualified electricians (two) and labourers (three) plus all the equipment (ladders, cutting tools etc etc) to do the installation. A further $200 (stated up front well before we signed the contract) was for a different qualified linesman to come in a week later and change our electricity meter to a smart meter that tells us exactly how much electricity we are creating and using each day.

Love the Rhino, and Pip's reaction to it :)

We were quoted £11,000 for solar panels - and that was for just 8 panels. Shopping around I've found a company that can do 'em (possibly) for about £7,000, but that is still over my budget.

I expect I can get a good boiler with fitting for £1500. The British Gas quote is just plain daft.

we have 12 panels, but we got a larger inverter so that when we extend (four and a half years and counting) we can put a further 12 panels up. The panels are about $200 each out here

I've always thought a flower-camoflauged rhino is something to be wary of.

I must admit, until I clapped eyes on this fella, I had not given the matter of flower-camouflaged rhinos a great deal of thought, but you might be right. :)
