We can fit you in sometime after the collapse of the social order

Took a half day yesterday to cover for Sam who had an appointment with the Ear, Nose & Throat clinic in the South Infirmary. I dropped her down and was driving back to the house when I got a phone call from Sam. I pulled in and rang her back. The appointment was for May 2012, a year from now. Sigh. D'oh! Mind you, that's more in line with my own experience with "botton tier" waiting list times. (I think I'm still on a neurologist's one for that time I fainted at my front door.)

When D-d had ENT problems about 8 or 9 years ago, our GP referred her to our local ENT department.

We got a letter which basically said 'Our waiting list is so incredibly long that we can't even begin to predict how long it will be before we can fit you in. If you get better, or die, in the meantime can you make sure you, or someone else, lets us know?'

I took it to our GP and said it said the above - he looked at it and agreed that that really was a good summing up of it...

I should be reassured that it's not just poor aul' Ireland, but really I'm just saddened. Is this particularly an ENT problem? I'd hope that oncology clinics are a little more swift, for example.
