Personality: Let’s talk Sacae and what it has to do with Guy. Guy is a Sacaen plainsman, which in Fire Emblem terms, means he’s an American Indian. Those from Sacae are known for quite a few things but the most pronounced are that they are honorable to a fault and that they will never, ever lie. Even when a villain is from Sacae, the protagonists believe everything he says completely because he won’t lie. Guy himself is fed just a little food during a time when he was dying of starvation and he pledged that he had a debt to Matthew, the man who fed him. Later, when Matthew called on this debt, even though it put Guy in a terrible situation, Guy did what Matthew asked because his honor demanded it.
As for Guy himself, his biggest goal in life is to become the Saint of Swords, the title granted to only the best of swordsman. Why does he want to do this? Is traumatic past he wants to recover from? Revenge against a hated foe? No, not really. He has dedicated his life to this because he promised his mother he’d become a great warrior one day. Those who live in Sacae have to learn to use a bow so they can hunt. Guy, unfortunately, sucks at it. To keep his mother from getting disappointed in him, he set out to become the greatest swordsman so he could show her that he could be just as much of a warrior and a knight without a bow.
Despite his plainsman heritage, Guy often sounds more like a knight in the way he refers to others, referring to females as “Lady So-and-So” and males as “Sir So-and-So”. He’s extremely polite and will rarely turn down a request. As a matter of fact, when a request comes from a girl, he tends to melt into something of a moe blob. He has a tough time doing anything personally with girls for some reason or another and gets very nervous. Especially when they touch him. This seems to bring him to much woe because older ladies all want to treat him like a son because he’s just a really good kid. Either way, despite his skill with a blade, he recognizes his position as a plainsman and ends up leaving a noblewoman that he fell in love with because he would only drag her down her position since those from Sacae are often discriminated against as barbarians.
Guy also loves to fight. Not to the death or anything sadistic but he feels that if he challenges others, he can get better that much faster. If they are stronger than him, he’ll instantly want to take lessons from them in order to improve his own skills. It’s slightly hinted that post-game, he challenged the world’s best swordsman and ends up dying in that fight but there’s no solid base behind that. But honor, swords, and derpiness around women sums up Guy to a tee.
Abilities: Guy specializes in sword fighting, eventually promoting to the Swordmaster class. This means that he lacks strength and defense but he has a large amount of speed, skill, and luck. This translates to him being extremely fast and having the uncanny ability to hit weak spots to make up for his lack of strength behind his sword blows.
