I'm not brilliant like you, so I can't write a book like you that will move as many people or mountains. I wish I could, and a lot of times I think that maybe if I read your words one more time something will click and it won't be mimicry but some beautiful and original imitation that is fit to print and fit to call my own. sometimes reading my favorite authors can be one of the more gut-wrenchingly demoralizing things i can do, despite my having minimal to no inkling of intention of being a writer. and it doesn't matter if it's the beauty or the wit or the shiver-inducing reality they've created. who's this one?

the most painful and entertaining to watch, as i was reminded somewhat superficially tonight, is 'yes'.
