Sooooo I've been working on a trek-fandom-related blog-type project that will launch soon, and I'd like to make it separate from mylittleredgirl. You're all TOTALLY INVITED! but I want it to be separate from all the general woeangst I've had since 2003. I forget if I told you guys about my plans for Star Trek University, aka I learn all kinds of everything that ( Read more... )

Couldn't really say where all the cool kids are these days, but I think this is very exciting and can't wait to see it! :)

This project sounds awesome!

I vote for a one-person community. I'm pretty lazy about checking non-LJ/DW blogs. And the community option is easier on you, because you don't have to log out and log in all the time, and you get to use all the icons from your current account.

YOU WIN AT EVERYTHIIIIIING!!!! :-D I even cropped out all the people so you couldn't see the Voyager uniforms. <3 <3 Even I forgot that Species 8472 was called the Undine. Thank goodness I'm going to have to watch lots of Star Trek to get my game back on. ;)

*buffs nails and graciously accepts her bonus nerd points*
Voyager, man. Voyager. <3

But I have an unfair advantage 'cause it's my day job ;) And I don't think they actually said "Undine" on Voy. The name is what is used in Star Trek Online (with CBS' blessing)

Oh DUUUUUUUUUDE in August I am going with work to the Trek Convention in Vegas.
a) I work with awesome people on an awesome project*
b) VEGAS! I haven't been beyond the airport! I am excited.

* No more superheroes for me! They moved me down to Trek in November and said "We're adding Romulans as a playable thing. They need to pick a side. We're having them do it on Khitomer. You get to do the mission" and I went "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE eheheheheheheheheheheeeeeeeeeeeeee"

alas I am no longer paying the russians for an acct and I have no more icons :(

YOU CAN BE A ROMULAN NOW!?!?!?!???? I LOVE ROMULANS!!! OMG. THEY ARE MY FAVES. AND YOU GOT TO WRITE A MISSION ABOUT ROMULANS? ROMULAAAANS????? *hyperventilates*

I just watched the episode last week where Senator Cretak gets bumped off by Section 31 for being too much of a patriot and nnngggg INTRIGUE POLITICS ROMULANS.

My computer can't handle STO anymoar tho because it is old and starts to fry I miss my cute Trill captain whatever-her-name-was :(

YOUR JOB IS THE COOLEST OF JOBS. And Undine was probably mentioned at one point because I'd heard it before. Sometime when someone is telepathically linked with them, or something. Oh Voyager! I wish I were on the west coast right now and making money so I could come meet you in Vegas! I am terrified of conventions these days (IDK) but I would conquer that so we could squeee the house down in person, zomg.

Somehow I have the option to post to 50 different communities. At least I remember what 2/3rds of them are??

miniotp, shipwithpants, and sg575 are indeed the best though. :) I want all of them to still be happening! I have a mini!otp story I've been wanting to write forevs, but it involved the asgard and I hear things end badly for them so I can't write it or people will know that I haven't seen the end of sg1!

I have no idea what the cool kids do, but I'm partial to Blogger for things that are in my mental category of "blogs that are for a general audience to find and read." Which I suspect is mostly because LJ is in my mental category of "Where my fannish identity is sequestered semi-successfully from my professional one."

A geek blog that is for people in general to find and read... er... splunge? But I don't think LJ is enough of a ghost town just yet that people will actively avoid a good geeky blog just because it lives here. So the single-poster comm suggestion makes sense.

The ghost town thing was sort of my concern, but ONTD has kind of made LJ a legitimate blog platform again in its allcappy muckraking way (not gonna lie, I totally read it sometimes). And a comm is a good idea because I could potentially sucker other people into participating in "course-work" in the future! ;)

And man, my fannish identity is totally not sequestered enough, lol. But I suppose it served my former employers right if they stalked me online and got an eyeful of Dancing With the Stars porn. Oy!

LOL! I actually don't care even a little bit what people at my day job might read. I do, however, avoid linking directly to my specific fannish stuff from my online acting stuff. Though I'll happily admit in a general way to writing fic and making vids, because these days, in all honesty, my geek cred gets me more work than it might jeopardize. So, all in all, I kinda do a crappy job of it. :-)

YAY embracing your geekdom!! I was thinking of you the whole time I saw the Doubleclicks' latest video (it's being spammed everywhere so you've probably seen it, but if not, you need to immediately:
