I opened iDVD while I was copying a large file off a CD-ROM.

It checked something, not sure what or why, and then informed me that I don't have a "SuperDrive" that can burn a DVD.

Apparently the DVD hardware check fails if a CD is inserted and heavily in use. Haven't tested under other conditions yet.

Last night I made the mistake of clicking on a .zip file that had been burnt to a CDROM long ago. Nothing happened, and the little dialog that says "Archive Utility" and "Unarchiving" wouldn't go away ( Read more... )

Intel developed mac-compatible Indeo codecs for OS9. You know, for a bunch of computers that had never yet resulted in the sale of a single Intel CPU.

Flash forward a few years. The Intel-based macintoshes are released. They can't run Classic mode, so there is absolutely no OS9 support.

So I stick a REGIONLESS DVD in.

I know its regionless because I made it myself, on a PC. There's not a lick of CSS on it.

The Macintosh refuses to play it unless I chose a region for the player hardware! I did not. It ejected the disk.
