Dream Shoot

Mar 23, 2011 14:30

I've had a quiet love affair with pinup/vintage/rockabilly since I could remember. It's always been a dream to design and do a shoot with that kind of style and fashion.

I half jokingly mentioned it to a certain someone yesterday-- needless to say it put the wheels in motion.

Things I never expected to happen.
But now I'm confronted with what to do ( Read more... )

Something about the upper part of the dress of "D" just reminds me of 1950s TV housewife. ::shrug:: They'd probably all look good though.

Well, look at it this way: what's the worst case scenario? You construct a dress that looks close but maybe not perfectly like the way you want? But still likely looks good and reasonable for the era? And effectively have a nice dress to wear around anyway? :P

He did. But nothing serious like studio work. And all his photographs if they were around would probably be back in the old home in Honolulu, not out here on the mainland. You're probably going to be stuck with classic inspiration.

Also, just a thought: while I imagine you're limiting yourself to housewife because you believe you could find an appropriate set, aren't most pin-up shots studio type of shots anyway, even with military outfits?

yeah that's what I'm using as a basis for this too, it's definitely going to be more ready to wear (which is the opposite of what I do for costumes.)

Yeah I mentioned this to minh, don't be surprised if he comes to you for assistance in this shoot XD

yeah! just when it comes to the navy styled one I always pictured it near the beach or the ships like in san diego ya know?

You and me both! I love everything about the 1930's and 40's. I seriously believe that was born in the wrong era sometimes.

I like some of the images you have pulled , you might want to also check out the works of Elvgren and Roy Best for more inspiration. If I would to suggest anything I would go with different stockings. When I think pin up I think either black or nude tone stockings with the seam down the back, or if you really want to be daring small holed fishnets. Unless you want to go for alternative vintage inspired looked, I would go with something a little more muted.

Good luck hun and I can't wait to see this come to fruition!

p.s. I would suggest some of these stocking:
