If you are not in the mood to cuddle with your significant other by a nice warm fire on a cold evening, follow these simple steps:
1. Take Jae camping
2. Let Jae start the fire
3. Buy wet firewood

In all honesty, Jae did a wonderful job of attempting to start the fire. Everything just happened to be workign against him.
