Second time's the charm?

Jan 04, 2011 00:51

The spn_j2_bigbang is starting up again, and man oh man, there's this itch for me to sign up. But last year didn't go so well, in that i couldn't finish my story, and I'm not sure if I want to try again. But, but, but, you know, it's like this temptation.

Should I or shouldn't I? I need solid advice.

Do you have a plot in mind? And a way to keep on track with your story? (Either a plan, a cheerleader, both, something else...)

If so, then go for it. Just because it didn't work last year doesn't mean it won't this year. :)

The most problem i have is keeping on track with my story. It sometimes fizzle on and off. That's what happened last year, when the idea fizzles out and the deadline has come and gone. *shakes head at self*

I agree with ratherastory. If you have a solid idea, go for it. Last year is not a portent of each year to come.

Perhaps one way to keep you on track this year and combat the fizzle is to write out an outline and send it to someone -- a beta, a trusted friend, someone who enjoys poking with sharp instruments....

Then, when you feel a fizzle coming on, contact that person and say, I'm here in the outline and I'm not sure if I wanna go the way I thought, but I still want to end up where I was going, and so...help.

If you have the itch, you must scratch it, says I.

That's a good idea actually. Let me create an outline and send it to someone who can take a look and it and offer suggestions and we'll see if it's actually feasible!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Do it only if you feel up to it and you think you'll get it done that way you don't feel guilty.

LOL That's what I was thinking, but, you know, sometimes the need to just accomplish something major arises. And I like deadlines because it made me get off my butt to finish it! :p

I can't offer you good advice. I know I couldn't do it because I know what my limitations are as a writer. You're the only one who can guess what you're capable of.

You know what? I take that last comment back! You are capable of anything you want to do! What's the worst that could happen? You get further into your story even if you don't quite finish it? How is that a bad thing? If you want to do it, go for it!

When you put it that way...

As I was telling gaelicspirit above, I might do an outline and send it out to someone and see if the idea is feasible.

Thanks for the optimistic view!
