To Feel Proud or Ashamed

Well I went to my caucus last night so excited. I mean this is such an amazing time in our history. Though for my generation I don't think we ever doubted that we would see something other then a white rich man as a president. Though for many older then I this was a day they had never dreamed would come true. I am so proud of the fact that our ( Read more... )

I know the feeling. The first time I went to caucuses, there were 6 people, including me and both my parents. We had 12 delegate spots to fill... and last night, our precinct had 67 people show up and about half that many stay for the caucus. It was exciting that people care about the presidential race, but the resolutions seem more important to me. The president isn't likely to care about poor kids getting mercury poisoning from eating too many wild fish, but I care a lot because those kids are my neighbors, and someday maybe my little fisher-people. Now is the time to get involved, and so many people are just too lazy... boo. It makes me sad that the big national election gets all the glory, when it's the local level that has the biggest impact on our day-to-day lives (aside from if there's a draft... gack...). Why are we so apathetic? If you just show up, you can make a big difference ( ... )

I'd go with goatgirl on that one. Also, some advice given to me by a cousin and a friend that always picks me up when I'm down: "Fuck 'em, do it anyway." I'm not affiliated with a major party. And that leaves me feeling very disconnected through the primary/caucusing period. You've got a stance, organization, direction, now leadership. Hell, starting off from a microtown is probably the best place. People are like sheep. Persons not so much so. But people...baaaa... if you could gain ground where maybe 2-4 more show up for the next one then that's already 1% of your overall population and 150-200% percent increase since last meeting/caucus. In a small town you can go ANY direction FAST. So it's hard yeah, but...wait for it...wait for it...oh yeah, "Fuck 'em" -your cousin, Sam
