ah Ryan, you've finally discovered that the issue is not value itself, but the fact that there is no unmediated value.
I've been trying to convince my philosopher friend that I have better taste in music than him for the past few years, and he keeps on pulling that one on me. I've struggled to justify my claims, however fruitlessly.
seriously, though, you'd really enjoy aesthetics - I've been trying to solve questions like these without answers for years, and while it's basically the same as masturbating and reading articles that aging hipsters wrote (probably while masturbating), it's a hell of a lot of fun, and makes for good party conversation.
and i think that the "meaning" (which is not what i would call it, but i think i understand what you're saying) lies in the consequence, not in the action or feeling of suffering or pain.
I very well could be in NYC in early February to check out Cardozo. Also playing the ever-popular Jewish Mother-In-Training that I am to see if you've gotten stuff in order for NOLA in May as rooms/flights may be rapidly disappearing.
"so, let's say instead of stubbing my toe, i mishandle a firearm, shoot myself in the spine, and am permanently paralyzed ffor the rest of my life. again, huge consequences, but shit happens. there is no meaning to the event. therefore, if instead of doing to myself, someone else does it to me, that should not change the pain or the consequences
