Oh, man, the concert was just... *_*! It was so cool and the music was perfect and the way they presented it was just so strange but fitting and just... <333!!! I would have posted about this earlier, but the nuns were suspicious of my good mood and gave me some extra cleaning duties in the dorm. Too bad for them even that didn't upset me.
We met up outside the venue about 8 o' clock, giving us an hour to find our way to the floor and kill time. I wandered off to buy a couple of t-shirts and something to drink for us all with some gift money my dad sent me, then we went to the ground floor and hung out with some other guys that were there for the show.
I'm fairly sure I freaking SPARKLED when they opened with "999,999". I was happy when they faded in with that song, then continued on to "1,000,000", "Letting You", and "Discipline". The first four tracks off of that album, awesome! Now, my memory breaks down here, because there were a couple of songs I didn't recognize in the set, and I can't remember the order of most of them. But the ones I could recognize and remember are as follows (in no particular order).
A Warm Place (which segued into...)
Closer
March of the Pigs
Terrible Lie
The Hand That Feeds
Survivalism
The Beginning of the End
Hurt
Only
Head Like a Hole (*_________________*)
There were several instrumental pieces I didn't recognize, including one that had Trent Reznor playing a xylophone and making it look and sound cool. o.O Seriously, this guy can do anything and make it look good. Although I wish that they'd played "The Perfect Drug", it wasn't on teh playlist for that night. I can't find it in me to complain, though.
But I think the one thing that was possibly better than the playlist, was the show. They used two screens, one behind the band and one that either hung halfway down or dropped down in front of the band. A few songs had images of deserts and swamps, and one had pulsing flares of light behind the individual members. There were other things too, but four of the 'scenes' really stuck out in memory, when the screen was in front of the band, and three out of the four times either Trent or someone else interacted with the screen. The first time, the screen had been in front of the band for one song, and the image was still up there afterwards, so a guy came out with a light, and started swiping the light up and down across the screen, erasing the image in pieces! It was awesome to see, even if you knew it was all preplanned and acted out. Still looked cool. ^_^b Then the screen started out with a torrent of static-y rain, and a 'puddle' opened up an area in the middle for the audience to see the band, while the rain continued to frame them. At the end of that song, the whole thing shattered like glass, and the pieces fell.
The third time there were two rows of squares, with a red line going between them (a la the artwork from The Slip). A guy came out (likely the same one who used the light before to 'erase' the screen), and began touching some of the squares. As he did, those squares lit up red. I ended up remembering the sequence because I didn't know if it was a clue to something. You never know with NIN, ever since that Alternate Reality Game for Year Zero. The fourth time, there was a wall of colorful static in front of the band, with one small hole where the audience could see Trent singing. And whenever he moved, the hole moved with him. He'd run backwards, 'pushing' the hole around. Then he'd 'push' the edge of it with his hand, and send it flying across the screen until it disappeared at the edge. It's hard to describe the scenes in a way that could make you visualize them as they happened, but believe me when I say I was impressed.
They finished around 11, and I said goodbye to Momo-kun and Kamio-kun, went back to the dorm, and crashed. There was only one mosh pit, during "Head Like A Hole" (I think that should have been mandatory, though, because the song rocks too much not to have one). And I'm proud to report that neither Kamio-kun nor I were hurt. We even got some slaps on the back and congratulations by the bigger guys for sticking it out in there through the whole song!
All in all, a great show from an awesome band and I want to see them again! Kamio-kun, Momo-kun what are the chances of us sneaking into Taiwan to catch their performance on the 26th?
But even that good mood isn't doing anything to help me figure out what the hell happened Tuesday. I'm not like that, what was wrong with me? And why was I having those kinds of thoughts about Mizuki-san? It's... I don't know, but it kind of scares me. I haven't been able to bring myself to call him since then, and I've kept busy and out of my room in case he decides to come visit before I'm ready. But I can't avoid him forever, and I don't want to. I just don't know what I do want...
