I just called Barnes & Noble to order Tupac's book of poetry (for the purpose of my students paralleling Tupac and Maya Angelou) and I snickered when the woman asked me the author's name, only for her to reply, "Oh, I think I've seen that name before..." I wonder whether I'll be familiar with the contemporary musical influences/legends twenty

Gwendolyn Brooks is another good poet to teach. She was always one of my favorites.
