I think you need to finish the narrative before you judge yourself so harshly. Once you finish, you can go back to the beginning and balance it out, but you need the entire thing to work with.
Blah. My issue is that I hate writing dialogue. I'd rather just write descriptions. It would be much easier to put the story to paper if I didn't try to develop the characters with words.
I can write dialogue if both of the speakers are recognizable fragments of my personality. If not, I have a lot of difficulty making the dialogue take of its stilts. I'm stuck on a conversation between two female college students right now. I have as much trouble writing female characters as I do meeting them (present correspondence excluded).
