All right, LJ: Which collar do you like better? Symmetrical or asymmetrical? The body will be a close-fitting rib pattern with shaping in the back.

I was going to say asymmetrical, but if you have the buttons with the shaping on the back I'd go with symmetrical.

But having the shaping in the back is awesome enough to justify having a slightly less-awesome collar? :)

Yes, definitely. I love the shaping, I just think it would look odd combined with an asymmetrical front; something about how it would all be pulled to one side.

Symmetrical. Asymmetrical collars were super-trendy around 2004/5, and ergo look quite dated. They'll might be safe to wear again in maybe five years. Or maybe when we're old and pushing retirement they'll be the hot new retro thing.

Also, that symmetrical one is classy-looking and a more classical look, so it will always look awesome and not outdated.

Also, with the back-shaping and buttons, an asymmetrical (ergo, more attention-grabbing) collar on top of that will be a whole lotta look. You don't want overkill.

Looking dated is not something I'm concerned with: things going "into" and "out of" fashion is utterly retarded. People should just wear what looks nice on them whenever they want and not try to force themselves into things that look shitty on them because they're in style.

But your point about the attention-grabbing asymmetrical collar on top of the back shaping is well taken. Overkill is not what I'm going for, but I didn't consider that the asymmetrical collar would be more attention-grabbing than the symmetrical one.

I've always liked those asymmetrical collars, but I've never seen such an awesome collar as the symmetrical fold-over one so I say go for the new exciting thing.

I like symmetrical. It looks more balanced, and you can always be asymmetrical in other aspects of the outfit.

I like both. But I think I am going with asymmetrical, because it's easier to go with anything.

I mean the thing with symmetry to me is, if it's not perfect I get all fidgety. (Also, the symmetrical one reminds me of a little old grandma >_> (KEEP IN MIND! I live in Florida! and I see a lot of them!), while the asymmetrical gives off a more youthful (but not necessarily juvenile or childish) look).
