The "n" word...

We were sitting around in the living room when an ad for Dr. Phil's new episode came on - all about the 'n' word. I looked at my twelve year old daughter and asked, "Do you know what the 'n' word is?"

She nodded emphatically. "Yes!"

"Okay," I said, "What is it?"

Actually, there is a growing subset of black people who feel the word is unacceptable as well... I've told all three of my children that they are not to use it (and they are black)....

FYI, a sign of the times, perhaps... when we discussed it, only one of our children reported ever being called it.....

I'm wondering if the Dr. Phil episode will touch on that growing trend? In any case, I just don't figure it's me or my kids' place to tell other people what they can call themselves.

I remember standing in line next to a friend in grade five. Some boy came up and called her this name. My short little friend turned right around and punched him in the nose! And when the teacher heard why she did it, she didn't even get punished. I was very impressed.

LOL... in fifth grade a kid lifted up my skirt to show my underwear to the world, and I slapped him, hard... he ran to the teacher to tattle but I didn't even get yelled at... he, on the other hand, got sent to the principal's office...I love teachers!!!
