Just when I thought I couldn't get any prouder of the boy, he came home today, sat down at the computer, wrote a letter and printed it out to give to his teacher. This is it...

Just curious -- how old is your boy?

You should be very proud of him, as I know you are.

I am! :-)

He's actually got a diagnosed learning disability in the areas of fine/gross motor co-ordination and written expression. Having access to a computer has made all the difference.

Who needs pencils anyway? It's a wireless world! ;-)

One day your son is going to rule the world. Suddenly, I see a future full of hope.

(PS: what happened about the bully-on-the-bus petition?)

At least I know whatever silly social movements he gets involved in as a teen/young adult, none of them will involve starving himself. The boy is too fond of his creature comforts - and that should keep him this side of sensible.

One hopes!

As for the bus petition, who knows? It's in the vice principle's hands now. But I'll make sure to ask my son if the situation has improved any.

"should keep him this side of sensible"
And the pain of piercings and tattoos is, I am told, transitory...(vbg)

Your son, my daughter - condemning injustice wheresoever they encounter it :D

And it's so cool to watch them do it, isn't it? :-)

Yup, definitely feel better about things now, there is a young man I want to trust the future with.

Yeah, just guard your food well. Or he may invade your country. ;-) And play your videogames in his underwear.

I do love this boy *G* And that video is quite cool. Though I'm not quite buying the "male foetus being feminized while in the womb" theory.

Though I understand the "feminized/masculinized in the womb" theory applies to dogs, too. Anyway, that would explain my testosterone-rich neutered female dog who humps the cat and has lately taken to marking points around the neighbourhood. ;-)

Proud of your boy... he should give my son some lessons... he wants to join Boy Scouts, and he's pitching a hissy because we told him he couldn't due to the Scouts anti-gay stance.

Loved the video too...LOL

Must be American scouts, right? Up North, our Canadian Scouts consider the American association a bit weird (my kids were involved for a few years). We're fully integrated, boys and girls can both join, women can be scout leaders, and there's no discrimination allowed on the basis of sexual orientation, religion, or anything else.

This leads to a few odd moments, sometimes... There's a similar oath, to obey God, but the scout leader is careful to make it clear that "God" can be defined flexibly (versus being specifically the Judeo-Christian God).

Upon hearing this my daughter raised her hand and said, "Can I swear my oath to Aphrodite, then? She's my favorite!" :-D

Your son has my sympathy! Is there another organization he can join where he gets to go camping and such?

Yeah, it's American Scouts....

We sign him up for park district camps, church camps, and so-on... but it's one of those "My friend so-and-so can join, so why can't I..." situations...

We've explained to him that as part of our faith we consider any discrimination to be reprehensible (especially given the ethnic make-up of our own family)... and he understands and agrees... but it's one of those peer-pressure deals, I'm afraid...

That's sad! But, I suspect it'll be a good lesson for him down the road, about sticking to your ethical guns even when it's difficult. :-)
