I suffered severe Xmas 'melt down' and am only just coming out of it. With the possibility of Les being dangerously ill nothing else seemed important, and once we got through that Xmas was almost upon us. I attempted to prepare Xmas cards on behalf of both of us, but gave up after writing 12 of them, as the combination of osteo-arthritis in my ( Read more... )

Don't feel bad about the cards, I still haven't got it together to send all of mine yet. (much drama with my sick mother) anyway sorry to hear you've been poorly and the heat doesn't help things either. Sure your family would have understood, you have had a difficult time lately what with moving and Les sick etc and your own health.

Thats a very hot pink flower on that cactus, love it! Hope to see more pics from you eventually. Hard to get into the habit of taking the camera everywhere, though once I started feel naked without the weight in my bag!!

I have a mock orange (or maybe it's orange blossom) not sure, the previous owner planted it in a bare corner just before I bought the house, it's grown terrifically in 6 years. The scent is gorgeous. I hope you keep it alive. I wish we were closer, would love to come over and help with your garden. Have tiny seedlings sprouting everywhere of jacaranda...will have to cull them out though - too many trees here now as it is.

I might be able to bring a piece of the cactus with me when we come to Sydney this year, (a family wedding on the Central Coast), that is if you would like it. The previous owner of this house had quite a few cacti, some of which she took with her. The one I photographed is in a shady area of the garden and surrounded by ivy, but still keeps soldiering on.

I wish you could come and help me with the garden too, but thanks for the thought. And, oh, how I would love a jacaranda - they do grow here as long as you can protect them from the frost until they have grown a bit. One of my loveliest memories of Sydney is the jacaranda in bloom.

I'm glad that your mother made it through Xmas, so that you don't have that anniversary occurring at that particular time. My father died on Boxing Day after a long illness, made it very hard to forget, although in his case it had to be regarded as a happy event, all things considered.
