Queen Victoria Building - 2nd post

On the Gallery level there is a display case of facsimiles of the Crown Jewels of England. I apologise for the quality of these, I suppose if I had been using an SLR camera with an appropriate lens the reflections may have been avoided. (Must ask Les, being the professional he would know the answer to that).

I remember seeing the crown jewels in the Tower Of London many years ago but haven't been back since even though I go to London a couple of times a year. Were these specifically Victorian crowns?
I love seeing stuff like that and old dresses.
:)
Reflections can't always be avoided but sometimes they can be minimized if you take the picture at an angle or put the lens against the glass.

I should have made a note about the crowns. Victoria is obviously wearing the crown that was made for her, the large gold crown is the king's crown ad the smaller gold crown is his consort's, this leaves the silver crown and I can't remember it's significance. These are of course the crown's of Britain, not England. I did go to the internet after I made this entry where there is a wealth of information. According to Wikipaedia the statue of the queen outside the building came from Ireland and was a gift of the Irish Government; if this is the case I'm sure they would have been very glad to get rid of it. However, my memory still insists that it was located in Durban, South Africa. I will do more research on this bit of trivia as it is niggling me ( ... )

I'm the same way. I always have to have all the details straight!
Just remember to angle your lens through glass the next time. It's not fullproof but it helps.

This is a permanent display on the central area of the gallery level, near the information desk. You can have a guided tour also (I didn't). More information if you google 'Queen Victoria Building'.

thanks for the info, glad it's permanent, since I won't be getting down to Sydney for a while now. I will check it out though when I can, I haven't been up to the gallery level for many years. It's a glorious building.

You should spend some time there, it is interesting and beautiful, and you could have a field day with your camera. I'm sure your pics would be superior to mine. There is also an item of solid jade on this floor, think it is a Chinese marriage bed, I didn't see it but a friend mentioned it to me. Think it must be down at the end somewhere, but not sure if that is Druitt or Market St.
