Trip to the Blue Mountains

I managed to escape from steamy Sydney one day and take the train to Katoomba. I have a friend living there and arranged to meet up with her for lunch. I only just managed to catch the train, as even though I had allowed adequate time, or so I thought, by the time I limped through from the Eastern Suburbs line, quite a long walk, then went to the ( Read more... )

How long did you spend with Rowan? Where are the Blue Mountains with reference to Sydney? West? North? NW?

That's a cute way to decorate a subsatation.

I was not there that long, I suppose we might have had 1 1/2 hours together. The Blue Mountains are west of Sydney. I have sometimes regretted moving back to Hobart instead of settling in the mountains, but I think I made a better choice. They are colder in the winter and can be extremely hot in summer. The climate here, so I read in the weekend paper, is comparable to central Portugal.

Me too! It's so realistic. I had to look twice. It makes me want to finish the mural on the side of our greenhouse!

I can just see you limping your way to the train. I marvel how people do this! Just ignore all that pain and get on with their day!

Did you just stay for the day? What a lovely little experience this was! May I ask how much train fare cost to go and return?

It was just a day trip. One of the lovely things about being an Old Age Pensioner is that we get cheaper rates on public transport. When we visit Sydney we can buy a Pensioner Concession ticket for $2.50 per day, which permits all day travel, including from Sydney to Wollongong (2 hours south of Sydney), Sydney to Blue Mountains (2 hours west) or Newcastle (north of Sydney). It also covers travelling on the ferries, buses and trains within the city. We also made the trip to Wyong on this ticket. This travel is more generous than we get in Hobart, where we can buy a concession bus ticket for $2.20, with all day travel excluding peak hours. We mostly use this to just travel into town, although it could be used to travel to other areas of Hobart. The bus services here are not as frequent as in Sydney, due to a smaller population, so that I try to avoid going to other suburban areas to shop ( ... )
