I'll write about the Melbourne trip when I get over the exhaustion; suffice it to say that I enjoyed every minute of it ( Read more... )

I despite airline travel with a passion! It takes forever to 'get out of' Alaska, and the airlines have cut back so much that everytime I travel I find myself frustrated, sweating, and miserable. I can totally relate to this entry. I'd have been near tears too!

I'm glad you're home safe and sound and relaxing.

Thanks. You'll note that it wasn't the getting out part that was difficult, it was getting back, which it always seems to be. Really, when you are a long way from anywhere, air travel is the only option. We could go by boat, but would have to travel to the other end of the island to do it (a 3 hour bus trip) and then an overnight ferry trip, which would cost quite a lot more. Like you I don't enjoy air travel any more, except when I have travelled with Thai Airlines where you really know that you are travelling somewhere special, and have never had these kind of problems.

All I have is absolute empathy for you as we've gone through very similar travels. How could Nick have forgotten to get you?
:(

I'm sorry it was so rough.

Thanks, it helped to get it out of my system by writing about it. Every time I come back from a trip I say I won't fly with Virgin again, but the other option is no better, and has less leg room.

NIck somehow managed to get it in his mind that I was returning Tuesday of next week. It was a shame about the Asti.

I don't particularly want to either, but if I want to visit friends and relations I have little choice. I could take a 3 hour bus trip to the north end of the island and then take an overnight ferry, but that would be even more tiring.
